I got this neutral safety switch recently from Rusty for my '84 300D
and I don't see anything underneath that looks like this on/near the
driver's side of the transmission. Can someone help here? TIA.

The switch mounts to the linkage connection on the side of the
transmission on the drivers side, so you would need to be looking
at the transmission rather than the engine as you have pictured.
