Answer below assumes the throttle actuator on the E420 is very similar to the E320. By test you mean what? The unit itself will go through a self-test every time the key is turned on. YOu can usually hear the throttle motor winding through its full movement every time you turn the key. That and

Cruise not working is a definite tip off that it's throttle control related. Does the idle slowly hunt up and down, or is it just rough? Most of the time there will be some codes set when the wiring starts to go south. Gary Thompson 1995 E320 On 11/5/07, Kaleb C. Striplin, work [EMAIL

Have you checked the codes at pin 14? That's where the CC/ETA module will report all codes. There are quite a few that will not cause a CEL and will not show up with the built in LED. Just in case someone else is listening in, here's one of the best code summaries I've seen along with a link to

I wish mbz was more like Chrysler in that respect. Turn a Mopar ignition on,off,on,off,on and the old cars would flash the CEL and you could count the flashes to read the codes. Newer vehicles with electronic odometers display the codes in the odometer. My dad's Dakota set the light, so I did the
