Answer below assumes the throttle actuator on the E420 is very similar
to the E320.
By test you mean what? The unit itself will go through a self-test
every time the key is turned on. YOu can usually hear the throttle
motor winding through its full movement every time you turn the key.

Cruise not working is a definite tip off that it's throttle control
related. Does the idle slowly hunt up and down, or is it just rough?
Most of the time there will be some codes set when the wiring starts
to go south.

Have you checked the codes at pin 14? That's where the CC/ETA module
will report all codes. There are quite a few that will not cause a CEL
and will not show up with the built in LED.

I wish mbz was more like Chrysler in that respect.
Turn a Mopar ignition on,off,on,off,on and the old cars would flash
the CEL and you could count the flashes to read the codes. Newer
vehicles with electronic odometers display the codes in the odometer.

anybody know how to test the idle control/cruise actuator throttle deal on a 94
E420? I have looked thru the CD and see no precedure. Maybe I overlooked it.
