Peter - this seal was new about ten or twelve years ago, and now it is time
for a another new seal (my other 124, the '95 E300, just had the compressor
shaft seal expire and then got all new seals for that compressor).
Just took a peek, with the help of a UV light, nice green dye glow from the
The new seals often leak a tiny bit when freshly installed, they wear in and
seal properly after a few hours of running.
And sometimes they keep leaking, alas.

Well I believe I may still have a leak somewhere. Prime suspect is the
shaft seal on this compressor (just did the shaft seal / complete reseal on
the compressor in the '95 car).
I charged the system with 120 psi of CO2 on Saturday night, by Sunday
morning that had dropped to about 25 psi.

Yes on pictures! I took a bunch as it all came apart, helped a lot during
reassembly.

I need more parts to finish: receiver / dryer, and foam tubes for the
condensate drain from the heater box.
Excellent! Good luck on reassembly!

After four hours of effort over two days, heater box is out of the car (White
Whale).
If there are no issues, should have it back together this evening.

Going to be an expert soon.
Tonight on the drive home, AC in the '95 E300 is weak. Put on the gauges,
charge is low. Get out the sniffer, confirm massive leak of refrigerant
via the center vents => evapectomy time on car #2.

Great!
I have to do one on my 87 this month, it's getting to hot to drive
with the windows open all the time, to say nothing of too noisy.
Huge PITA, but I have to even if I just want heat, since all the vac
servos are dying and it's impossible to replace a couple of them with
the heater
