A big part of why I prefer analog gauges is that I don't have to
read the numbers.  A glance at where I know the needle _should_ be
is so very much quicker than looking at digits and having to
comprehend them.

If the needle is out of place, then the precision of a digital
gauge can be helpful.

I can see that a speedometer kinda blurs the distinction between
"gauge scanning" and "gauge studying".
