I had the lower radiator hose clamp break while in the fast lane in heavy
traffic at 75mph. My first hint something was wrong was when the car smelled
hot. I looked and the gauge was pegged.I got us off the highway quick but the
damage was done...That was a 240D, apparently Dimitri's buddy still
I gather the engine fries VERY quickly once all the coolant (or oil) runs
out.

Floyd,
I have no idea what your comment infers. My mechanic previously worked
for the Mercedes Dealership here in Atlanta before opening his own shop. Just
offering some additional information.

Kaleb,
Just some xtra info. My mechanic once told me that if a diesel doesn't
start and you continue trying to crank it that you will "wash down the cylinder
walls" and lose compression and it will never start. He said the fix is to
remove the glow plugs, pour oil into each cylinder, re
There is always that risk but with a car as nice as this one appears, I
would think that risk would be minimal.

Hot enough to loose spring tension on the piston rings and lose compression.
As a low compression diesel it won't start Likely also lost camber
on the pistons so they will slap when they go up and down... for a while...
until the piston skirt breaks off and that shrapnel destroys the rest
