Coolant (if it has more than water in it) will have a slightly sweet
taste. Brake Fluid has a bitter taste. But the easiest way to find
out which one it is would be to check the brake reservoir and if that's
ok, check the radiator level.

As Randy suggested, pressurize the coolant system and verify where the leak
is - however, on first reading, it sure sounds like a cracked block. I
shouldn't be too hard to find another one though.
