Great! If "Dory" is your car, then both of the 190Ds in fuelly besides mine are 5spd/2.2- which makes me feel better about getting worse economy than them.

I haven't been good about putting in data either, but I hope to put in my entire upcoming ~2k mile trip.

I found an old post on MBCA from Dr. Booth, where he said this:

"I had a 86 190D 2.5 (non turbo) that was stick shift.
I have one of each - a 190D 2.5 turbo (automatic - they were only sold as automatics) and a 190D 2.5 non-turbo 5 speed (it was converted from an automatic). The 5 speed will deliver 40+ mpg if my foot doesn't get too heavy, but 37-38 is more usual. The 2.5 turbo seldom will do better than 34-35 mpg, but if I only could own a single 190D, that would be the one I'd choose"

He also said this about the cause of poor economy in a 190D:

"The most common causes of poor fuel economy (after fuel leaks) are poor
quality fuel (good fuel can improve fuel economy by 10-20%) and
improper
operating temp (a thermostat that's stuck even a little open can lower
fuel economy in city/stop-and-go driving by 30% or more). Allowing the
engine to lug can easily degrade economy by 10% or more. Shifting to a
higher gear too soon - before the engine will be at least at the low
end
of the torque plateau in the gear (that's in the low/mid 2000 rpm range
- the actual torque peak is at 2800, but it's very broad and almost
flat) results in the excessive fuel consumption! Improper injection
timing and poor injector condition (improper pressures or spray
pattern)
usually only have a minor effect of fuel economy until they are way off
and usually there is some other presenting problem (noise, poor idle,
smoke) before poor fuel economy is noticed."

I think my wife got over 40mpg in our 2.5 turbo once when she was following me while I was pulling a big trailer with the Volvo, and driving only 55mph (and climbing hills at 35mph).

If a stuck thermostat can lower fuel economy by 30%, this might be partially responsible for the 2.5t getting worse economy, as it has a 5C colder thermostat.

I think my long term average on my 190D 2.2l 5spd is something like 38mpg but
I'd have to check, wintertime average is probably 35ish, lately I've been rock
solid 40mpg.

Average on my 240D was 28mpg over 40-50,000 miles, peak was 31 or 32 but I
think I only hit that once.
