When I bought my '95 E300, I think it took me a about a year or so to get
all the mess straightened out so it could be driven. I had to pay taxes
before I could get it licensed, and the tax guy was very cool about it. He
asked why I had not immediately paid the tax and license to drive the car,
The “market price” thing for charging sales tax is a total scam. Thankfully
Florida doesn’t do this. On Florida titles there is a place for listing the
selling price and that’s what you’re taxed on. You can also provide a bill of
sale, but they go by what’s on the title.

WA uses the Blue Book. Unless you fill out the special form, both seller
and buyer, and both sign it.

Anybody heard of this method for getting a title to an old car that you
may not have a title to? This seems like a much easier and cheaper
alternative to trying to get one thru Oklahoma for example, or if a car
has been off the road for many years, and if it is titled in the state
of OK for
