I hope MB just chose an unfortunate combination of words/letters when
they named their Trailer Stability Assist (TSA) - unless GASP! they were
talking about the "other" TSA?

My 2003 ML350 just has BAS and ESP, and I can turn off the ESP.
AFAIK, the W163 never had any nannies that freaked out when a trailer started
pushing the car around. The W164 (2006-up) might have them.
