Ruler added to illustrate size - about 7 or 8 cm = about 3 inches long. Wood is fairly soft - not heavy. Maybe pine? Stained brown - bottom is lighter as I wore the stain off sliding it around on the floors when I was a fair bit younger than I am now. RB
