So this is a true story. Back in 1968 when I was 14 I was visiting my aunt and
uncle. My uncle had quite a collection of Playboys stashed in a closet. While
they were at work I amused (!!) myself “reading” the magazines. I was actually
reading something about hi-go stereo headphones, which I
I bought a set of Winchester electronic earmuffs and they are much nicer
than the HF dumb-muffs. $10 at cdnn.com Low db sound is transmitted,
high db sound is limited. Probably different 'lektroniks, but the
noise cancelling in the Blue Parrot headsets is probably similar to the
I wonder if that's somehow related to the noise canceling system
developed by Bose a few years back? It started as hearing protection
(IIRC) in airplanes so and is now being sold in hearing protection for
shooting sports and others.

I don't know about noise cancellation like that but I'd read about how the 787
has a bunch of noise buffering and quieting techniques. Having flown in one it
is by far the quietest plane I've ever been in.

A client was telling me about something relatively new on aircraft.
Cannot recall what plane but he says there is a newer system on an
aircraft that he recently flew on that cancels noise. There are a
series of brass grommets for lack of a better description along the
upper wall in the cabin.
