In response to a recent discussion I checked in with an acquaintance who is a 
shipping manager for a big container shipping company. Might be HL, I’m not 
sure. I think she handles all traffic in/out of ports in the US SE. 

This is what she says:

Yes container volumes are way down compared to last year, and last year down 
compared to the year before. Now all of the shipping lines are starving, 
including Hapag Lloyd. All of us are bleeding millions of dollars every month. 
Feast or famine in this business. People aren’t buying as much crap as they 
were last year, continued ‘normalization’ after Covid plus the recession.
