I used a wilson magnetic antenna for my motorola fone for years. The
startac had a antenna plug. They are often available at large truck stops.

I'd take that in a flash. GTE then verizontal paid under $3k a year
and we thought that was great. The pubic broadcasting TV tower only
paid $1k a year. I tried to get Pubic broadcasting to pay up and they
had a fit.

Thanks Craig.
I wondered why all that Weboost stuff showed up in an Amazon search for Wilson,
I had no idea that WE stood for Wilson Electronics.
When I got my internet service from cell towers I had a Wilson car antenna
outside my window with a Wilson antenna adapter plugged into the socket

Agreed. I had _much_ better coverage on the road with the bag phone than with
anything newer.
Just another example of "new and improved" actually being worse in many ways.
However, with
The 1W and 3W transmitters and real antennae were the reasons why the old
phones had much better range. Which was necessary when they didn't have towers
every 3-5 miles.
About 15 years ago a telco wanted to put a tower at my boss' house.
I suspect he would have gone for it, but his wife told
Three watts! Don't hold that by your head when making a call!

My 2.3-16 had a big analog phone in it, permanent install with a little springy
antenna on the back glass. It was probably a good phone when I bought the car,
but they took down the analog towers in 2007.
Looks to be early 1990s vintage, a bag phone without the bag.
Old analog phone. My SL and E300 have phones in them
