Hi Kaleb,
I had the same idea. Take a look at my 1st paint job -
http://members.rennlist.com/my_911/Index.htm to see what I went thru.
Mostly it's a matter of sanding - and sanding - and more sanding. <lol>
The actual paint spraying is relatively quick - but as you no doubt suspect,
the preparation is the part that paint shops charge the big $$'s for. I
ended up spending almost 18 months doing this - but I'm disabled and could
only work on low-pain-level days - probably 2 or 3 per week. And I didn't
always want to play with the 911 on those days.. If I were to work at it 3
or 4 hours per day, 4 or 5 days per week, I could finish it in 3-4 months.
And BTW, putting all that stuff *back* on the car was time consuming because
I'd see a flaw on a part and decide it needed work or replacement.
If you get to the point that you want to take a whack at it feel free to ask
any questions you might have --
and I'm sure there are many others on the list with much more experience
than I who could be more helpful.
Sincerely,
Larry T ('74 911, '67 MGB, 78 240D - 285k)
