Not sure how'd you work a 4,6,9 shift? The working RPM range of a
American style big Diesel is ~1400-2100, every gear in a crash box is
about 500rpm, so skipping from 6 to 9 would mean you either rev the guts
out of the engine or lug it up from about 800rpm, neither of which is
good practice.

You just need to find a broken MGB (shouldn't be too hard). ;)
This would fit right in with that cool old Becker in your 300D's dash:

That could be explained by gearing.
The correct rear end is critical.

Oh - and it's hard to make any money driving around bob-tail!

The turbo will spool down as soon as the fuel feed is reduced.
But as soon as the driver steps on the "go" pedal it will spool
up again.

Is your 300D a turbo?
If so, do you have problems up-shifting and having the turbo spool down
during shifts?

Ha, yeah, its true... I've been cutting my neighbor's grass since she
doesn't seem to have any interest in doing it herself. As far as I know,
she was in foreclosure, but its been years now and she still there. I guess

Better your driveway than the next door neighbors'.
At least the buyer knows they don't have to live near you.

Yeah, I guess thats the ticket... recently I've seen two 190E parts cars
come by on CL with a 5 speed for cheap which I've been tempted to buy. But
I've got no place to part a car at the moment.

Oops, a 240D diff is 3.69:1, not 3.49.
I have one of those sitting in the trunk of the 300SD BTW.
The 240D trans ratios were:
I: 3.90; II: 2.30; III: 1.41; IV: 1.0, so the T5 I quoted below would be a
little lower, plus a decent overdrive in case you want to cruise 75mph instead
of 55mph on th

Its a nice idea, but a 0.62-0.50 overdrive will be nearly useless, and the
first gear is a bit tall overall. A mild overdrive would be useful on top
