The time has come to sort out the w124 2.5 turbo diesel. It has extremely poor acceleration. When dead cold it has a little better performance, although it surges when accelerating cold. After it warms up, the surging is gone, it just has NO pickup. I mean 0-30 mph in 12 seconds, 0-60 in 32

First you need to check to make sure the turbo is turning at all, then make sure the boost lines are intact and that the overboost valve is not stuck open or blown. That car is VERY slow with no turbo or added fuel. Diesel purge won't do a thing if you have no boost or no boost signal.
