I'm using my second GPS I love it. I would not recommend one of the hand
held ones or the TomTom POS. Plan on spending $600
NOw when is the IowaQ? - I think I'm planning to be there. Of course,
you can time between two milage markers and figure it out before I

That sort of thing can be a good option for small $. I picked up a small
unit that plugged into both my laptop and my IPAQ [PCI slot?]. Using it
with a map program on the laptop was quite easy and accurate. I have maps

If you have one of the newer eTrex Vista Cxs, the
adapters are hard to find - I had the same problem. I
also roasted my first one with a non-OEM adapter,
which Garmin gladly replaced, despite my truthfulness
in telling them what I was using.
Apparently there was an issue with a protection diode
There's a school zone near where I work, and they have one of those
automatic radar signs that display how fast you are driving.
I noticed when I drive through there in my 300D that the displayed
speed is 3 - 4 MPH lower than what my speedo says. Is this typical,
and which speed is more likely

Wonder how far off the radar guns the cops use are.

Under CA law, they're supposed to calibrate it before and after they
use it on someone. They use a tuning fork to do so, IIRC.

The radar guns used by large departments MUST be calibrated frequently.
Even the finding of one gun seriously out of calibration or even lack of
paper work to prove when it was last calibrated can result in
and they
wer all very close to the actual
speed.
The test was not expensive either.

I've noticed that my 123 will always get hit, but my 126s wouldn't. I checked

either direction, then drive by it at various speeds. Never would it register
me in the 126, always in the 123. Wierd.

My SDL reads right on with the GPS and timing the mile markers on the
highway, the 300D 2.5 reads 3-4 MPH low. I haven't checked the others
recently.
The GPS isn't instant (mine, that is) - it takes readings every second
or so and calculates from those.

Got any recurring need for one? Lowrance has one that lists for about $80 and
I've seen it on sale for $50-60.

If it has a map (as a former aircraft navigator, I unfortunately tend to get
lost while out motorcycle riding) I want one.
Joking aside, I really do want one -- but I want it to do what I need it to
do (maps). I need turn by turn out in the sticks, not just a map of downtown
Manhattan. I want to

Never tried a Garmin. It would be hard to beat my Lowrance Iway though,
its one hell of a unit with 10 gigs of hard drive space for the built in
mp3 player. Never used it but its there if I wanted to.
