More likely to be the upper strut mount that the strut unless they
are really sloppy and loose
like and its a distinctly
rear end breaking loose kind of feeling. This is a front end
darting kind of feeling.

You don't need to touch the spring. Pull the most suspect strut, test in
accordance with manual (compress a required distance on a bathroom scale,
measure amount of force required to compress).
