That is what I went with for regular sockets, although the HF ones only go up
to 19 or 20 for 3/8 size, and was missing a coupe of sizes on 1/2 and only go
up to 29 I believe. I need to figure out something with the sockets that won’t
go on those. I am then using those cheap metal socket rails t
Wish I had gone with the plastic socket organizers with the pins like you have
rather than the kind that snap in the driver side hole. They can be difficult
to get the sockets off some time.

Agreed, and it’s a behavior that one has to develop. I’m hard core about it (I
don’t shadow my tools, so I’m not that bad) and make sure everything gets put
away when I’m done. I might wait until the job is done if it’s something major,
otherwise, I put stuff back as soon as I’m done with it.
