At the dinner table my daughters and I, as they were growing up, occasionally 
used to amuse ourselves thinking of generic names that used to be trademarked. 
Jell-O (gelatin dessert), Scotch Tape (cellophane tape), Thermos (vacuum 
bottle), Band-Aid (adhesive bandage), and Chap-Stik (lip balm for chapped lips) 
come to mind. My favorite, learned when I read the label on my army trousers, 
was "Zipper" for "slide fastener".
Would be fun to identify current trademarked names that are just beginning to 
be used as generic. "Gunk" and "JB Weld" maybe? Surely there are 
automotive-related names, but I cannot think of any just now.
