At the dinner table my daughters and I, as they were growing up, occasionally used to amuse ourselves thinking of generic names that used to be trademarked. Jell-O (gelatin dessert), Scotch Tape (cellophane tape), Thermos (vacuum bottle), Band-Aid (adhesive bandage), and Chap-Stik (lip balm for chapped lips) come to mind. My favorite, learned when I read the label on my army trousers, was "Zipper" for "slide fastener". Would be fun to identify current trademarked names that are just beginning to be used as generic. "Gunk" and "JB Weld" maybe? Surely there are automotive-related names, but I cannot think of any just now.
