There is something to be said for paying cash. I wonder if we will one day have
a cashless society like some predict?

Hmmm. They might not pay on a little used car with minimum insurance. I'll
check on that. Thanks,

I tried to get that when I dumped AAA after they proved worthless. The
agent said to just pay for the tow if it is needed. That is cheaper in
his opinion. YMMV, especially when SWMBO's man is named Kaleb.

Thanks, Max. I'll check it out with State Farm and see what they have.
I've had AAA for a number of years at around $100, but used it only twice that
I remember, and that was local.

Gerry,
I've had towing with my insurance policy for years. I think it only covers the
first twenty miles, but I've used it several times. Cost is pretty low, I
remember $15 every six months.

I looked into Hagerty insurance, they put towing in as part of your
package. Can't do it right now though until I get a garage situation
for the cars, but it was a good deal though there are mileage restrictions.

AAA WA has hauled cars multiple times in a month at no cost. Five tows in a

Every car in the family for the past 15 years has taken a ride with AAA, or
gotten battery jumped. I think it is a very smart investment for roadside, if
not for insurance. It truly beats paying a towing bill once a year.

Cheaper to get a towing rider on your regular auto insurance policy. I
believe Geico charges me something nominal like $15 per 6 mos. Allows for
towing up to 25 miles plus unlimited jump starts. They have been very
accommodating to me. Also, you may qualify for free MB roadside assistance

Wife used to work for the SE AAA. Understand that AAA is not a nationwide
organization, but a disparate group of regional companies that are loosely
connected by name that offer benefits unique to that region’s owner/group.
Thus the difference in benefits depending on where you live.

It depends on where you are in the country. AAA of MN sucks. they paid
for loading a car on the truck and 5 miles. A 20 mile tow cost me
$70-80 WITH AAA and I am sure I could have negotiated $70 or less with a
guy who owns a rollback. At the time I knew 2. One of them was AAA,
but NOT
I have had it 3 years now. Especially with the spouse it has paid for itself
many times over. The first year she used it 5 times. Last year probably 2-3 and
I had to use it once when the key for my 210 died. I have the top tier package
which includes 1 tow up to 200 miles. I have used it twice
I know some folks here have AAA towing insurance. How does that work? I've
never had it. Since I occasionally drive a W210 to work (46 miles one way), I
realize if this goes into limp mode, I have a rather large tow bill to get it
back home. I had the alternator quit the other night on the way
Anybody got a source for the 10mm (I think its 10mm) XZN required to remove the
axles from a 201 or 124?
I googled but I can can get is drivers (like screwdrivers I mean) rather than
sockets. Male vs female if you prefer...
Actually I just looked at the 124 diff replacement on Peachparts and
/8 deep socket with some heat and a bolt with that head
clamped in a vice.

I found the socket at a independent FLAPS. I am sure snap-on or the
like can get them for a price. On vw and on my 126, I also used
vicegrips to break them loose. The bolts on my 126 were rammed in
with loctite. They were really locked and st-born.

A local non-McParts auto parts store had the 10mm XZN I needed for the rear
suspension of the 201. It wasn't a socket, but this turned out to be an
advantage as I didn't have room for a socket on the top of it, and instead used
a gear wrench to tighten it down.
The 603 head used a larger one
I tried a little with vicegrips when last I messed with it but didn't want to
booger the heads. Maybe if I needed to try it again I'd buy a brand new pair of
real vicegrip brand locking pliers...

Yes, and absolutely. When it comes to really stubborn stuff, a new,
genu-wine vicegrip works best. On the vw, once the allen heads were
ruined, I figured clamping on a vicegrip was not going to hurt
anything.
a few new bolts from Rusty (or from some vw dealer in that case) is

The big wrench is for lossening the big nut in the middle that clamps the
