My '83 300D has a similar setup to what you pictured. The linkage is
different on the W116,
Or a piece of drive shaft rubber/fabric disc?

Taking the Jim Cathey approach for now, gluing it back together with
shoe-goo. Then I'll wrap a zip tie around it to keep it together if that
should fail so I don't lose the part.

Glue is good! Shoe Goo won't take the high temperature
found on top of a V8, but in that application it'll probably
be good for the remaining life of the car. There's a wad
of it holding together the Frankenheap's shutoff knob's
engine-side dingus, it's been there more than 10 years
now...

Hard to be certain but it looks like the number on the rubber block is
617.070.302. Not sure if that's just the rubber part or the whole
assembly.
