Let me rephrase my question.
Does this line back to the 2nd overflow tank need to be hooked up? The
radiator cap on the 1st overflow tank leads me to suspect
Ya talking about the plastic tank on top of the rt front fender, with rad
cap on it? 'Didn't know there's ANOTHER OVERFLOW tank under the fender
somewhere. Kaleb?
Actually on 603-engine cars it's analogous to the open vacuum line
that leads nowhere inside the dashboard---it's a controlled

the system if it is leak free. I'd fix

So, is there ANOTHER tank under the one on top of the rt front fender?
'Thought you were talking about the hose immediately under the rad cap on
top of the small tank on the fender. Pour some water in this overfow
hose
and see if it runs out
Thanks.

There is a tank at the end of that hose, a little larger than a football.
You

It goes
On the coolant tank ('86 300E) there are two hoses. One returns to the top
of the radiator. The second, right under the pressure cap, disappears into
the fender area. This second one is broken -- old, hard, and brittle. I
tried to trim a bit off and reattach, but it just crumbles in my fingers.
Overflow and excess pressure dump.

Let me rephrase my question.
Does this line back to the 2nd overflow tank need to be hooked up? The
radiator cap on the 1st overflow tank leads me to suspect that the entire
system needs to be pressurized, meaning that I need to get this line hooded
back up somehow.

It goes to the coolant recovery tank, and will pull coolant back into
the system if it is leak free. I'd fix it myself, as I don't like
wasting things.

Yes but only on LHD cars, mine just has a the overflow hose going to
nowhere but it appears there is a tank in the fender, might have a look
see one day.
