That was kinda the conclusion I came to. The AC was acting funky, I was

They’re a great “gas and go” car, period. Like the Mercedes version of a Camry.

I was starting to like the $500E300 more than I thought I would, ran
well, handled well, plenty of power, fairly comfortable. I wish it
hadn't encountered the tree but sh*t happens. But it proved itself so
no complaints there.

Yeah, makes sense Dan. I've never had much experience with the early cars,
but I can see how they're very different from the later ones.
I don't care much for how they ride or the interior. Add in the rust, and
the spring perches giving out too.

Jaime,
In my research and when looking at the W210s, whether gas or diesel, I found
that MY 96 and 97 cars were sort of one-offs in a lot of ways. Unless it’s a
stupid good deal, I would probably pass.
I have searches set up for W210 diesels here and I purposely leave those years
out.

I'd have to assume its rusty, given the mileage, price, and description
I'm slightly tempted, but I really don't like W210s. But it would make a
great winter
Sounds encouraging

The 123 thing is a bubble. It is bounce to burst sooner or later.

Indeed could be a good deal. There are lots of folks around here that buy
nice cars then never use them, or only go out in nice weather. They're the
same type of people that aren't good with computers.
I bought my 7 year old wagon with 18k miles from such a person.

Buy one south of the Mason-Dixon Line and you’ll have a really nice car. Both
of mine are very reliable and inexpensive to maintain. If anything happens to
either one I’ll look for another to replace it.
You can find a really nice one down this way for under $4k, typically less.

Here in NE 210's started to rust on the dealer's showroom I would love one

Maybe. With no pictures, it probably won't be sold soon. I'm watching a few
online auctions. I'll let you know after they end. My primary concern would be
rust. The more I drive a W210, the more I realize they are an underappreciated
gem. For what a clean 123 sedan is going for, I can pick up

Saw a '98 E300D with a for-sale sign in the window locally. Appeared
to be very well-kept inside and out. What's a good price for these?
Any particular problems to look out for besides the infamous spring
perches? (And are those still under permanent warranty by M-B, like
the cracked 107
Permanent warranty?
In a word - no.
I suppose if you have spent enough at the dealer to finance a small country,
they might cover it. Us normal people are SOL.

Huh, I could have sworn I'd read somewhere that there was a so-called
secret warranty on the spring perches, and if you took your W210 in
to the dealer you could get them to replace bad ones no matter
