I've always reused the axle nut on vw and MB. There is always a way to
crush it into the slot in a new place. Never lost one. Nobody (FLAPS
or STEALER) ever stocks the nut. A third or 4th use might be getting a
little sketchy, but a second use, I don't fear.

I had to have both rear wheel bearings on my Jetta replaced within a couple
months of each other. What is it with mechanics that don't want to replace both
sides at the same time? I had the same trouble on my '85 190D, one front
bearing failed, my guy replaced it "Oh they never go bad
