Geico used to recommend Star Windshield Repair for chips. Don't know if
they (Star) still exist.

When I tried to get that repair done in Seattle, they wouldn't do it
because the chip was in my sight line and they said it was illegal.
Years later, I ran into the same situation here in Kalifornia. Did fix
one though on the passenger side, no problem.

When I was with Geico, they wanted it repaired before it became a W/S
replacement and had vendors lined up to send to your house. BTDT, no

What's the best treatment for a small rock chip in the windshield?
With all the snow here in the PNW there's a lot of gravel on the roads
and the 300D got a good peppering today. It's not the typical white
spot at the point of impact, with an asterisk of cracks around it,
that you would expect,
It's not the typical white
spot...but rather an oval divot in the glass...looks like a drop of
water that won't wipe off.
That kind of break is called spalling, IIRC. Not going to be
a problem as it won't spread. Learn to love/ignore it.

Sometimes you can repair those by filling the space between the two
pieces of glass (the chip and the rest of it) with a slow set epoxy
with the same refractive index as the glass. Sold as stone chip
repairs.
Obviously, it must be open to the air at some point in the crack and
the chip
Hit one of the cheap windshield repair guys in the little tents in
parking lots. Something like $20 and they make it all good.
