I don't do it so much these days but back in my motorcycling days I used 
to make sure all the idiots actually stopped (or are about to stop) for 
their red light before I set off.
You'd be amazed how many people run red lights, sometimes not even on 
purpose.
This is one of the things they teach you in defensive driving course, 
assume everyone else on the road is a complete idiot.
Then there are the f wits in squashed bugs who think because they have a 
fast car they can turn off before others set off, the one I saw doing 
that got away with it but I was praying a tunnel vision ricer was going 
to collect him and his expensive car. I would have loved to give details 
to the cops about how Mr fancy car failed to give way but it was not to 
be :'(
