Possibly. When I had mine aligned a while ago after replacing the boot on the
end of the steering rack along with a tie rod, the tech told me it needed
mounts. Looks like a pig of a job, too. Mine doesn’t exhibit any of the issues
you describe, so maybe mine aren’t as bad?

Mine developed W123 levels of steering wheel play shortly after I bought it.
And then last winter it developed a nasty front end shimmy, but only on
one particularly unsmooth road.

It was involved in a collision that blew the seat belts, but it sounds
