I think it's the lower sulfur content makes it smell differently. Still, as
smells go, you can't beat it.

You'll probably never get the pad odor-free. Best to
remove it and replace with new. They're not that
expensive, it's just a real pig of a job to do, that's

I'd use Simple Green and the garden hose. You should be able to flush it
enough out to get rid of the odor --
