from buying any more of them. The union claims that on the job injuries
I wasn't aware you could buy Smarts in the USA since they are not EPA
etc approved yet.

Some [EMAIL PROTECTED] in san rafael sells electric smarts, apparently. I

they were approved either. I've seen a few buzzing
Smart doesn't make electric smarts either, perhaps you're confused
with some company selling golf carts?

ZAP was importing them.
They recently sued D-C, so I don't think that project is going too well.

Not even close to a Smart. Mike
Or those GM neighborhood vehicles. Glorified golf carts. I wouldn't
want to be in a crash in one.
Take a look at the car *before* the accident. Not a whole lot of
crumple room in the front of that car...and not much less
afterwards. Reminds me a bit of a VW Microbus, where all the
crumple is in the knee, not the bodywork.
Give me a properly engineered European sedan that folds like an
If it were to do a head-on with a 350SDL, it would go from +70 to -50 instantly.
Still, impressive for a matchbox - but I would not want my wife driving one.

Just because the car is intact doesen't mean that the passengers survived;
on the contrary, the more parts that crumple or fly off the car the more
energy that is released, this means less energy transfered to the passengers
and less injury. I don't know if the
True, I don't disagree. But you gotta admit, that passenger
compartment held up pretty nicely. Besides, the same decelleration
would inflict injury in a large car just the same. The only saving
grace with a big car would be if the crumple zone reduced the
decelleration g-forces by slowing the
Yes, i was actually suprised who it held up even though it seemed (from the
video) that the crash wasn't excactly straight on...or was it?

Actually I may still have a video of the Smart in an offset head on
crash against a W220 S-class.
In that one the little Smart car does a pirouette and the driver's door
is easier to open than this crash video.
Overall, an amazing little car in a crash. I see a dozen of these a day!

They're so cute, people think they're bumper cars. All they need is
that pole on the roof.
Impressive to say the least!!! Mike
