Kaleb,
You can do this:
Hook the yellow line to a R134a tank but keep the tank valve turned off.
Screw a high side R134a adapter onto your recovery
I had one of those hoses with a gauge that broke (the end that goes on
the can was plastic, it gets cold...), got another one that is all brass
fittings at O'Reilly's. THey also had a set of high/low gauges there
too. For some reason most of their AC stuff was not on shelves, but the
guy had
If you buy a good set, you won't be sorry. for occasional use the cheap
ones work fine, but the connectors and knobs don't last long if used a lot.

Thinking of buying a set of proper service
There is a Snap-On set on eBay right now, any thoughts on that or
other brands? I'd like one that is R12 and R134a capable, and has a
vacuum connection.

speaking of adaptors, anybody know where I can get an adaptor for the
yellow hose to hook R134 guages to my originally R12 recycle machine?
It has the R12 side fitting on the front of the machine to hook guages
to, need an adaptor so I can hook my R134 guages to it.

The hoses won't fit without adapters and those are getting harder to
find. If you do get an r12 set with adapters for 134, you will need to
drop by an HVAC supply and buy a bag of the little rubber washers that
go in the fittings, because they take a beating ( they're dirt cheap )

Napa carries them. I just had to buy one a few weeks ago for a new
vacuum pump I bought ( my old adapter was seized to my old pump). I
think they hit me about $5 for it, but considering that I had wasted
half a day hitting all the HVAC supply houses and came up empty handed,
$5 isn't too bad
What about having one manifold and two sets of hoses, and flushing out
the manifold with some type of solvent in between uses? Or is that
being penny-wise and pound-foolish?
What a major PITA! Probably cheaper to just get an on-sale R134a
set when you can.
