The problem I had in that regard was finding a set that was both decent off road AND was not load range C. Lots of 1/2 ton sport utilities use that tire size. My 05 dodge has load range E BFG All terrain KOs in that size, but even though they have the snowflake rating, they're a bit hard for a

Sheesh, thats like an oil thread question. I've got some nice Coopers on my 240D (courtesy Dwight). My 190D has some cheapies from Tire Warehouse. Both are far better in the snow than any all seasons I've had. I've heard really good things about Blizzaks but can't give any substantive data.

That sounds like good information to me. Generally you're looking for narrower tires to cut through the snow, not ride on top. Taller helps to give you a little more ground clearance, but it throws off the speedo and generally is limited by fender clearance over bumps. As for tread patterns,
