I think just about all of the valve covers use crush washers over the years.
I have noticed that since I went to 15W-50 it takes a second or two more of
cranking to start the car. I assume it's because of the thicker oil. This is

I think Marshall's advice is still correct. Turbo and IP failure are rare.
Problem is, IF one needs to find a replacement, the finding part is only going
to get tougher

I imagine you can reuse them, but I do seem to recall the 617s having them on
the valve cover bolts.

Has anyone researched Grundy's Insurance for their Benz insurance? Their adds
are saying they are insuring all cars at reasonable rates and agreed upon
values? Does anyone have any experience withe them?

Thanks Hendrik,
Yes, I had it filled and tested - they fixed a couple of small
leaks in the engine compartment then sniffed the interior but did not
get any hits. He suggested I drive it for a week and see how it does.
The next day we had warm air. ;-(This time he did get sniffer
Good point Peter - I presently have R12 hoses - and R134a was installed
recently. I'll ask my shop about replacing the hoses. I'm pretty sure
they make them in his shop.
My next step is to find the number of vac pods needed - I plan to
replace all the pods but need the qty. Maybe the parts
My understanding is that the dryer should always be replaced if the system
has been opened for any length of time.
I priced hoses for my 126 and they weren't cheep. When a real leak
developed, my AC had a local shop fit new rubber on the old metal pipes; the
cost was quite reasonable and I knew
Max: Thanks. Andrew's recent issues got me to wondering. I think I'll
just keep my fingers crossed as my spare parts shelves are already pretty
full with stuff I'll probably never need. Cheers.

I wonder if one could bake the moisture out of a used dryer and re-use it? Of
course, it is also a filter, so if the filter part is known to be contaminated,

Hey Wilton,
Do you happen to recall how your glovebox was removed? I'm sure I
will figure it out once I remove the panel below the box but anything I
can learn ahead of time is a plus. ;-) Not sure if an '87 will be the
same as my 91 but a little info won't hurt...
Thanks!

To remove glove box (without airbag!) -- remove the two screws holding
the latch bar to the plate and remove latch bar.
Pry the center out of the plastic clips that hold the fiberboard glove
box to the dash, then pull the plastic clips. Some of them will
