Re: [MBZ] Double flaring tool recommendations?

2014-09-18 Thread John Reames via Mercedes
Normally, I would agree, but in this instance, the line appears to have one end
over the rear wheels at the brake hose and runs to the front of the car, near
the master cylinder.

To further complicate matters, there are several bends with an inside radius of
approximately 1/4 and the various bends might allow the line to be manipulated
out if the car were on a lift.

Finally, the lines have an external coating and do not look to have any rust; I
can clearly see where two lines have rubbed against each other and/or the rest
of the car, right in the middle of one of those sharp bends.

I'll check the EPC for an idea of how long the lines really are, but I suspect
that replacing the whole line is a non-starter, if only due to the overall
length, especially where the passenger side is concerned.

I would second this approach having used it myself on a couple of occasions.

I don't know what what kind of connection you would use or make to repair a
brake line, but I can't imagine anything other than a double flare compression
fitting having any sort of integrity. I also can't imagine a brake line with
patches or repairs in it, either.

Remember, this is your braking system. Not something you want to have leaving
you in a pinch.

Have a couple of hard brake lines that rotted/chafed (unsure of which; there
are two in close proximity) right near where they make a hard 90.

They are the ones that go along the driver side of chassis from front to back
~on a 99 w210.

I'm sure the dealer is very proud of them, so my plan is to cut out the bad
sections, then fabricate new bends and splice them in.

I have no intention of using compression fittings or single flares; both are
known to work loose.

For splicing metric brake lines, a bubble flare is used, as opposed to a double
flare used on domestic autos. It is basically an incomplete double flare. Any
quality tool manufacturer will be fine. Lisle, OTC, Craftsman has one too, I
believe.

Far as I can see all they are doing is creating a bigger divide between

I like to think that I am reasonably intelligent and do think that it is
a small minority of Muslims who are hardline nut jobs and the vast

Driving along in a rental SUV (not a merc) in the middle of nowhere I
looked to my 9 oclock and saw a shiny ball way off in the distance,
looked at the road and looked back and it was gone.
Anyway I don't particularly like those TV shows where people claim to

Given the proliferation of camera equipped phones, we should be seeing
some footage of space ships any time soon but then with alien tech they
can make themselves invisible to cameras.

Re: [MBZ] [ADMIN] - Alien Politics

2014-09-18 Thread OK Don via Mercedes
I was out practicing night operations tonight in the Cessna. I wonder is
any of the locals reported me - flying low with all those flashing lights,
in a semi-rural area at night??? We saw one UFO - but it seemed to be
heading to Will Rogers airport - - - just because I couldn't identify it,
doesn't mean it was piloted by aliens. I was too pre-occupied keeping the
runway lights turned on on our 2500 ft. grass strip to take a picture of
the UFO :-)

 driving in Arizona.
Driving along in a rental SUV (not a merc) in the middle of nowhere I
looked to my 9 oclock and saw a shiny ball way off in the distance, looked
at the road and looked back and it was gone.
Anyway I don't particularly like those TV shows where people claim to have
seem this or that, just more crap to fill the airwaves with.
Given the proliferation of camera equipped phones, we should be seeing
some footage of space ships any time soon but then with alien tech they can
 make themselves invisible to cameras.

Re: [MBZ] OT: My website

2014-09-18 Thread Jim Cathey via Mercedes
Jim could not do it as he would have had to check his website in order
to get the instructions on how to do it (like the rest of us) and his
website is down.

The site is alive and well in the basement. You just can't see it
anywhere outside the house!

Jim, what kind of things are you putting on this site? Just words and
pictures, right? Not like massive downloadable files or anything,
right?

Words and pix, yep. To the tune of somewhat under 400MB now, most of
that pictures in my wife's section.

No, the _site_ wasn't purged, my memory (and notes) of alternate
ways to set up the web site elsewhere than where it is right now
is what got purged.

Runway lights? Bah, humbug! Who needs those?! :-)

Don't you just double-click your mike and they come on? How long is their
timeout set to?
