I could do as Jim suggests, but with a 210 it would cost me a grill insert,

Right before the failure, I took both latches out and cleaned/lubed them so they

 Larry,

I'm skeptical that you can get it open going through the grill, I'm going
to take a look at my '95 and see what it looks like. I remember examining
the mechanism and thinking that it would be quite difficult to defeat. I
think that all of the cable/lever part is inside a metal box with no access.

She made some money off her book, and I think there might have been some
sort of settlement.

She should sue them for it, then quit as soon as she gets the check.

Re: [MBZ] W124 Hood Release will not work

2015-07-19 Thread Jim Cathey via Mercedes

With great care and a stout jeweler's screwdriver you can
pop the hood on a 107, no damage. The PO did this on our
for-sale SL. Took him quite awhile. My first act was to
hook a coathanger wire to the release lever. Having that
big semi-open circle in the middle was key, I believe.

Eventually I replaced the broken release cable.

I don't see how the hood can be opened via the grill without
drilling/cutting/removing more metal that protects the hood latch. I'd say
your best bet is to get at the end of the cable under the dash, grab with a
vice grips or similar, and pop the hood that way, and then replace the
failed part immediately once you get it open.

[MBZ] CL rustbuckets

2015-07-19 Thread Curly McLain via Mercedes

CL rustbuckets

I am thinking of looking for a CL rustbucket 240D 4spd as an aid in
conversion. I have all the major parts but if I can pick up a hulk
close by it may aid in the installation.

Some of y'all get notifications when something is listed in CL What
is the url for the application/website or whatever does that?

Thanks
