I was told by my SWMBO that Coach has a lifetime warranty. Send it to the
fctory and they will repair it free of charge.

Incidentally, my Steiner binoculars went south and the company (in Fort
Collins) repaired it for free.

Was probably lifetime when Wilton bought his wife's. Rumor has it that lifetime
is ten years or so.

No damage here just 16-20" rain at our coordinates. Crazy. Roads closed and
flooded everywhere though, not sure if we can even get off the island right
now. Not sure where we would go if we could. It's getting bad midstate now too,
flooding very bad up there.

In July, there were six tropical storms in the pacific at the same

Glad to hear y'all are hale and hearty! Those gators make good eatin and
nice boots fer ya and purses fer SWMBO.

18.25" rain recorded down the road at the exclusive gated resort community
of Kiawah, their road was under water last night and their gate was under
water too, I guess the moat got a little too full. Our manse remains above
water but yesterday's high tide had the marsh flooded higher than I have
seen it before, another one this afternoon at 2ish. Charleston is closed
off, our island has one road open to get off but not sure where one would

Boone Hall recorded 24" rainfall as of this morning since Friday, looks
like it has been raining in your (and that) area most of the day. Just
started here again, hard, and the tide is the highest I have seen it on
the estancia, even higher than yesterday. I just got back from the
store, the road had about 6" of freeboard over the creek, tide is still
coming in so it might yet get flooded. Marsh there is the highest I
have ever seen it too.

Mama was supposed to go back to Sparkleburg this evening but that ain't
happening, she will see what it looks like tomorrow, getting through
Columbia might be a problem as it is flooding bad up there now too.

[MBZ] Leather shop/repair

2015-10-04 Thread Curly McLain via Mercedes

Boyers Boots

420 N 36th St, Quincy, IL 62301
(217) 223-9709

Full service repair and some custom leatherwork. I used to take
boots there, some 300 miles each way for me. Good folks. Family run.

Bells in Beatrice, NE is out of business, or i'd recommend that too.

Probably is a good shop in Red Wing MN, but since I've only been
there on Sundays, I don't know for sure.

I'd bet Max can find ya a good shop in Italia too. But that means a
long trip...hard to do over the phone.

BTW, mention of SWMBO's purse reminds me: My SWMBO has a Coach
leather purse purchased in 1972 in prep for her 2-to-3-week visit
with me in Thailand while I was flying BUFF missions to Vietnam.
The trim around the top is getting slightly worn, and she asked me
yesterday to try to find where she might get some repairs done to
it. It's her favorite purse, and she'd like to keep it "on the
road." It still looks good; just needs some additional TLC around
tope edge, much like our MB's.

I checked Coach site and found lots of em at $495 ea. (paid $40 in
'72) but no comment about repairs; did get a customer care # she'll
try tomorrow.

Anybody know good leather repair shop for such repairs, in case
Coach can't, or won't, handle it?

Only because it came to the list from an unsubscribed address and sat in the
approval queue while things were all whack-a-doo the las couple of days.

Hasn’t helped that I’ve been traveling.

The point was that it wasn’t sent until I released it from the queue. At that
time it had been in the queue for a while.

[MBZ] Non-Hurricane Damage

2015-10-04 Thread Meade Dillon via Mercedes
Today we went to church, and for about 20 minutes it stopped raining so
when we got to the church parking lot the car ('95 E300, 124.131) was dry.
I found two places where the clear coat is suddenly bubbling up and
separated from the paint, a big spot on the roof and a spot on the middle
of the hood.

Complete failure of the clear coat. Weird, I've never seen that before.

Meanwhile, The White Whale (124.193) is flooding on the inside. I think it
is a problem the sunroof drains, I have a replacement rubber tube that is
planned for replacing the right rear drain tube, need to get on that.
However, the water is on the driver and passenger floorboards, so either a
sunroof tube on the left side is also bad, or there is some other leak(s).

I don't know if MB has gone as far as toada and eliminated the last

Friend of mine has a 2013 pushbutton Datsun (Nissan).
He has had a no-start condition at least four times so far that I know of.
He swears he never leaves the car in ON or ACC mode when it happens. He claims
he rarely puts it in ACC when he wants to do something brief, like program the
GPS, and then immediately turns the car off.

Last time, about a week ago, it happened at Belle Tire because the guys
there can't mount tires with the car in Park, nor can they figure out
how to turn the car OFF with the car in Neutral, so they left the ignition
ON for an hour and a half while they monkeyed with the tires.

Time before that, which left him REALLY not amused, it wouldn't start at 10:30PM
in downtown Lansing near the baseball stadium after a game. He claims he just
put it in park, hit the stop button and left the car, with all the lights off.

The car has funky voltage regulation. I plugged in my OBDII and went for a drive
with him, there are four modes; no alternator - runs about 12.0V, break even -

runs about 12.7V, normal charge - about 13.5V, and supercharge - 14-15V.
The idea is to charge the battery like a hybrid, it enters supercharge mode when
you lift off the throttle to coast to a stop and then runs no alternator for a
few minutes after that. I don't know if faulty charge management is the cause of
the occasional no-start or not. He finally bought a jump pack last month and
keeps it in the trunk. I hope he can open the trunk with a dead battery.
He said he'd put a DVM in the glove box and check voltage the next time it
refuses to crank. I'm wondering if a group 24 deep cycle battery will fit in
the battery tray and connect to the cables in place of the group 35 factory
battery that's been run flat a few times already.

Re: [MBZ] Another good thing about old MB diesels

2015-10-04 Thread Meade Dillon via Mercedes
Speaking of flat batteries, about two weeks ago I found the battery in
SWMBO's Infiniti was dead, as in nearly zero volts. The car has been
sitting a lot because it needs a new steering rack (about $350 for an
aftermarket on RockAuto) and it is not a high priority project, so no time
to devote to it. Battery is about three years old.

About four weeks ago I drove the car one day to run a couple errands, and
it cranked up just fine and drove fine, but now it was dead. I tried
putting the battery charger on it, but it wouldn't accept any current.

Friday night I popped off the caps to check the electrolyte levels, and all
were low (a couple really low) so I topped them up and put the charger on
it. Low and behold, after the charger cycled a bit between zero current
flow and a few amps (buzz-charge-bzzz-charge-bzz-charge
etc) it settled down into a slow charge current of just an amp or two, and
then over ten minutes it slowly started taking more and more current until
it was at full 10 amp flow, which was all the cheapo Hazard Fraught charger
was capable of. I left it charging and checked it about an hour later, and
it was still charging at ten amps but the poor charger was getting pretty
hot. I shut off the charger and left it alone for the night.

Yesterday I put the charger back on at ten amps, left it for a bit and when
I came back the charger indicated full charge on the ten amp setting, so I
flipped it over to two amp setting and let her go again. After a full day
the two amp cycle says it is done, battery says it has 12.88 volts. I took
off the charger and over a minute with the meter on it the voltage dropped
to 12.85, so I think this battery may not be too good. I'm going to let it
sit and check it again tomorrow to see if it will discharge just sitting
there. I bought a "de-sulfinator" charger from Amazon which I will try on
it later.

Gucci has several repair shops in the U.S. Their average charge for repairs is
around $100 last I heard. Don't know if they repair anything besides Gucci.
