You can run it with jumper cables from a battery - either in the garage, or
the one in your car. Keep a foot on it - the case will try to rotate in the
opposite direction of the armature. Don't run it very long, it has no load
and will turn faster than expected.

be out in the country. But they do have a "James Clyburn Recreational
Center." It is actually quite beautiful out there but is mostly
populated by multi-generation AAs/Gullah folk who mostly never left the

If you put power to it it should spin if it is any good, but it will

starter motor I had all but forgotten about. I do not recall where I got
it from, but in any case, is there a way to bench test it before installing

Shouldn't a starter function as a generator if you spin it fast enough? If
it works as a generator, there's a good chance (electrically at least) that
it will turn under external power? That's what I thought Gerry was talking

It was great to see you again Wilton, wish it could have been under different

I use one heavily. Too many systems and logins and other

All the Mac Pro's will run 64-bit El Crapitan, but the first
two need you to play games with the boot.efi files. And you
need a non-stock video card. My brother's 1,1 had run Crap
in a test, and the 2,1 I'm typing from now is running it.
I believe all Mac Pros will take at least 16GB of ECC
I recently retired a Mac Pro 1,1 that was run with the EFI hack for 2-3 years
quite successfully. It would run rings around newer Macs. With upgraded
processors, plenty of RAM and an ATI 1GB 5700 it was a smokin' machine that I
had maybe $600 in all total.

You may not have used a Mac since the switch to Intel then, I have had both
Windows and Red Hat Linux running on a Mac Mini without any OS X install on
the disk at all. Although, I will say that since the Intel Macs all use EFI
