Re: [MBZ] Stuck in limp mode - 2007 ML350 - 128k miles - $6,100
Quite ambitious in the ask. Doing the CP on the cheap would be a few $100, going with stealer or shop would be close to $2k then you’d have a $3k car if the engine was not a known issue. The engine is likely a ticking time bomb so significant risk there. --FT Sent from iFōn > On Oct 22, 2023, at 11:16 PM, Allan Streib via Mercedes > wrote: > > After you fix the transmission the balance shaft will be your next issue. > > Extra zero in price. > > https://dayton.craigslist.org/cto/d/springfield-2007-mercedes-benz-350-ml/7679554605.html > ___ > http://www.okiebenz.com > > To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ > > To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: > http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com > ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

[MBZ] Swap and Benzing
Today I did a swap. I had a 99E20 I bought maybe 6yr ago for $600 with bad conductor plate. I put maybe $200-$300 into it. It’s a very nice car, 245kmi, I drove it for 2-3yr until I got the 05E320 4m wagon. I saw this 07E350 a few months ago on FBMP and talked to the seller, it sounded like the balance shaft failed, although the woman said it just died one day which isn’t usually a balance shaft failure mode. They were asking too much for it so I let it slide. Woman contacted me maybe 2 months ago to see if I might still be interested. I went to look at it and it’s a really nice car, black/black, staggered AMG wheels, AMG lower body kit, only issue is driver seat bottom is torn. It was in Bristol TN about 2.5hr from my daughter’s. Cranked ok but wouldn’t light off. I put the fancy computer on it and it was not clear what the issue was exactly, there were cam codes that might suggest a bad balance shaft but it wasn’t clear. Timing chain didn’t look bad so I didn’t know for sure what the issue was. So anyway the woman selling it needed a car for her daughter so I proposed the 99E320 for the dead E350 plus they give me $500. They agreed as they had no one with any knowledge there to deal with the E350 and it had basically just been sitting. I went to do the swap today and it would crank but not fire, same as before. I had ordered a crank position sensor I was going to put on there but it’s really difficult to get at so I didn’t do that today. Drove by the Bristol Speedway which doesn’t look a lot bigger than a football stadium but maybe it is. And it was a gorgeous day in the Appalachians with trees showing fall color. In another month… I got it loaded and ready to come home. Staying at my daughters tonight then will head home tomorrow. Yesterday I went to look at a 95E420 with staggered AMG wheels I’ve been looking for. Struck a deal on that. Car looks really nice but the engine appears to be trashed and there’s a few things missing but mostly complete and in good shape. No tittle. Has a very good facelift bumper. I’ll collect that next weekend. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/345688404493236/?mibextid=6ojiHh So anyway that’s my Benzing madness for the weekend. Aside from gas i think I’ll come out ahead on the deals. I’m still waiting on Crispy to let me know when and where to go look at her really nice black/black GL450 with a soaked SAM. Stopping by Todd’s tomorrow to get a “new” 722.9 conductor plate from LKQ programmed for the ML63 which should get it sorted finally, mostly. Can’t wait to drive that. --FT Sent from iFōn ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

Re: [MBZ] Diesel fuel mileage
Bio-D would have less energy but I've found it to be good for the car in other ways. This makes me think. The snowmobile club has an old farm tractor we mow the trails with. Its gotten persnickity in the extreme. I bought some diesel purge to run through it but I'm wondering if a couple gallons of biodiesel through it might not do as good a job cleaning the IP and associated gubbins... -Curt On Sunday, October 22, 2023 at 02:19:19 PM EDT, Kaleb Striplin via Mercedes wrote: I wonder if it has something to do with the biodiesel content? Re: [MBZ] Interesting Benzing experience
Many years ago I was coming back from northern Maine not long after Memorial Day. There was an accident and the whole highway was down to one lane at a walking pace. Occasionally somebody would decide they wanted to take the closest exit and would slip down the breakdown lane. Just ahead of me were a pair of monster 5th wheel campers pulled by diesel dually pickups. They decided they'd try the breakdown lane trick. It'd been a wet spring and the shoulder was soft. No problem for a car, just stay on the pavement. Well the wheels of that big camper hit the soft shoulder and it started to slide. It went slow but steady, I couldn't believe the driver kept driving but I guess he thought he could save it. By the time he decided he couldn't it was too late and the whole rig slid slowly into the ditch, the right side of the camper completely buried in the muck. His buddy steered back into the travel lane and never stopped... -Curt On Saturday, October 21, 2023 at 05:33:36 PM EDT, Jim Cathey via Mercedes wrote: So there’s not a lot of drama with having contention with other vehicles. > And I can keep a good stopping distance ahead of me. > Both important points. There can also be sudden wind surprises. I know I see a lot of guys blasting past me in what look like brand-new muscle-bound pickup trucks towing what look like brand-new very large RV's. Going faster than anybody else, whipping in and out of traffic, etc. I'm guessing that they're new to towing. Accidents waiting to happen if you ask me. Once saw a nice new big RV on its side on the freeway, with the new towing truck also tipped over on its side. Stater said it was due to too much speed on the corner, probably exacerbated by wind, and maybe evasion/braking due to the onramp that was right there too. Re: [MBZ] Diesel fuel mileage
Back in the day when I tracked mileage carefully I could definitely see differences in energy content from the fuel at different stations. [MBZ] CL600 ABC Fun
So today I embarked on the replacement of all of the accumulators in the W215 chassis (CL600). Got the car on the Quickjack and in the air, which is nice. Found the pulse damper, which is located at the rear valve block. Definitely original. The rear accumulator is tough to get to as it’s on the “top” of the underside, above the exhaust, and next to the spare tire well. Soaked everything in Kroil to start. I noticed plated fittings underneath the car are rusty, probably because it was parked on the ground or grass for a while with the last (second) owner. Things like crimp ferrules are crusty, but no rust on the chassis or body or fuel/hydraulic lines. Amazing how much damage something as simple as parking a car over dirt can do. Broke fittings loose on the damper, so it’s ready for replacement. I’m taking a short break to let the Kroil do its magic on the rear accumulator fasteners and fitting, as they are a little crusty. Once these two are done I move to the front left of the car, where the front valve block is located, in the front of the left front wheel well.
