The 500SL in '79 would be a Euro model. I know they made 500SLC's -
for racing. I don't know if the 500SL is a standard Euro car or rare.
There aren't very many 500SLCs, and the do go for a fair amount of

Check and double check your parts before you pull the old one off.
I got the leaking powersteering pump out of my 190D today no problem. Turns out
the new one is WRONG. Its an 85 bar unit, the one coming out is only 65 bar. I
was tempted to run it anyway when I noticed the "new" one has 1/8" play in the
shaft. The old leaking one has zero detectable play...
I emailed Silver Start Recycling, the picture in the auction has the correct
pump...
We'll see what they can do, meanwhile I need to put the leaker back in.
*sigh* I was so looking forward to being able to clean the engine bay and have
it stay relatively clean...

On a positive note it takes about 10 minutes to pull the powersteering pump, I
could probably do it in less if I made a drawing of the serpentine belt
routing. As it was I was trying real hard to keep the belt mounted so I
wouldn't forget.

Hi Curt,
Sorry to hear you had so much trouble. About the serp. belt
arrangement - if you have a owners manual there will be a diagram in there.
There's also a sticker near the radiator showing how it fits - with numbers

2006-09-16 Thread Jim Cathey
Just wondering... earlier this week, I lost all lighting on my
passenger

side of my '82 w126. No low, high or fog beams.

Fuse is ok (changed it anyway to be sure), so it has to be wiring or
the

switch.

There are at least three fuses involved in what you described. (And at
least two more for the other side.)

QUESTION: is this a known failure mode of the dash switch? Mine does
feel

pretty worn, in operation.

No, the dash switch doesn't know left from right. Only the fuse box
does, so obviously that's where I'd have you check next. (Again.)
Grounds on that side would also be common to all three lamps on a
side.
