Injector spray pattern, injection pressure and low compression out of
specification ALL will result in louder to much louder compression
noise. Worn/damaged valve train parts can make a lot of noise too.

[MBZ] W126 seat interchangeability?

2006-11-22 Thread kevin kraly
As many of you know, I've been looking for some better seats for my 300SD.
I came across several seats out of similar gasser models (420SEL, 500SEL and
560SEL). Will these fit into my 300SD? I figure it may be worth a try
since there aren't as many high mileage gassers out there. Gasser S class
seats are more prevalent.

should fit - same chassis, same mount points. So long as the power option
is the same, should work.

Luther,
Since inventory seems to be limited perhaps you could get a part number
for this machine so we could search elsewhere - perhaps even locally. Since
you;re doing this as a favor (as opposed to selling them for profit) it may
make more sense for us to try to buy them locally and avoid shipping costs -
and save you the hassle of collecting money, geting sufficient inventory,
getting boxes for shopping, etc etc.

I did a search for Prestone Flush FIll and it only returned a pack
with some adapters for several vehicles - not the machine you're talking
about.

What do ya'll think?

What's the best stuff to use to adhere a new door deal?
I got the seal months ago from Rusty and I thought I had some goo but I don't.
I'd like to do this today ( along with an oil change and radiator replacement
[if it comes]) so hopefully it's something I can just run down to NAPA or
McParts and snag.

What's the best stuff to use to adhere a new door deal?

Weatherstrip cement. Available most anywhere. But it only goes
on in a few places, usually at the hinge end, most of the door
seals just tuck into the channel in the door frame.

Spraying contact cleaner into the switch while operating it USUALLY will
result in the corroded switch starting to operate. You may have to
toggle the switch 50-75 times before you get the first signs of life
but keep squirting and toggling and function is often restored. You may
have to repeat this in a week or so if function becomes erratic, but
after two or three treatments, reliable and prolonged function will
usually be restored. The fact that you got one to work once is a GOOD
sign that restoration is probable.

I routinely use Caif D-5 contact cleaner.

It is pretty good; I've been using it for about a month. Not quite as
fast or as easy as the installed version and there are no prices listed,
but all models are there, you can access it from any computer, and
you're spared the installation headaches with the regular version (which
I haven't had working since 2003). Some of the older models are
available only in German, which is a bit of a problem as the main reason
I signed was for the W188 and W198 information.

I give it two thumbs up overall.

Bob,

Before you run to the store, you should know that there are about 5 little
clips holding the front of the gasket in place, barely visible and easily
damaged. You might want to remove the old gasket and see how many you
need/broke
before going. I am talking 116 but guess that your 123 will be similar.

I do like stp Sun of a Gun for lubing the gasket before installing but don't
get any on the corner where the adhesive will go. The gasket will push in
dry but why not give it a little preservation help on the dark sides.

I just did the back doors on my 116 chassis. The only place you need
adhesive is at the lower front corner of each door. 3M weatherstrip adhesive
works
fine if applied to both surfaces and allowed to cure before contact. A
piece of duct tape across each corner will insure it won't move.

Good luck,

If that's the case then you must have some propane injection or other such
option to boost your 83 300td to double it's horsepower... I figure my 83

about as fast as it looks. If anything, mine perhaps sounds faster than it
is. With the exhaust disconnected at the downtube, it tends to make people
look when I'm flooring it to get out in the street and simply do 20mph and
it sounds somewhere between a tank and a Mack truck at full throttle... (:

That's a negatory - the 300TD is no Q-ship. It doesn't look fast and (most
importantly) ISN'T fast.

The 3.5 -might- be a Q ship, but the coupe design probably makes it look
fast.

True MB Q-ships are cars like the 6.3, 6.9, and 500E - sedate-looking sedans
that have jaw-dropping performance.

[MBZ] Door Seal Replacement

Well, one of yous guys was right about those stinkin' plastic clips.
Score is: Clips 5 Me 2...and the twI managed not to break are quite mangled.
I'll get new ones.
The old one came off easily...except around the door check where the thing was
glued big time.

When I took the pin out of the door check strap, I noticed the other end of the
check which, I suppose is supposed to be attached inside the door, was
disconnected. I took the strap out of the hole in the door where it lives and
the pin/roller thingy that should be in the door is bent into a C shape. Odd.

I haven't taken the door panel off to look inside since I don't have standby
clips (I know I'll break some). Do I need a whole new check or can I just get
the piece which I bet isn't supposed to be in the shape of a C?

Re: [MBZ] Door Straps

2006-11-22 Thread Werner Fehlauer
Bob - door checks, when not lubricated once in a while, tend to rust and
then break. The check function is made by a vertical tube on the inside
door part of the strap, that has a large steel ball bearing top and bottom,
loaded with a tough spring. The balls ride in a channel of the door strap
housing. Yes, the door panel has to come off, and then you can get to the 3
small cap screws that hold the assembly inside of the door frame. Rusty has
them, and they are not expensive.

Subject: [MBZ] Door Seal Replacement

Well, one of yous guys was right about those stinkin' plastic clips.
Score is: Clips 5 Me 2...and the twI managed not to break are quite
mangled. I'll get new ones.
The old one came off easily...except around the door check where the thing
was glued big time.

When I took the pin out of the door check strap, I noticed the other end
of the check which, I suppose is supposed to be attached inside the door,
was disconnected. I took the strap out of the hole in the door where it
lives and the pin/roller thingy that should be in the door is bent into a
C shape. Odd.

I haven't taken the door panel off to look inside since I don't have
standby clips (I know I'll break some). Do I need a whole new check or can
I just get the piece which I bet isn't supposed to be in the shape of a
C?

Re: [MBZ] W126 seat interchangeability?

2006-11-22 Thread Werner Fehlauer
Kevin - I didn't know that '83SD cars had the memory seat function. My '84
did, and it was in a module under the driver's seat. But my '83 is just
straight switches in the doors, which can be carefully opened up and
contacts cleaned, and then they work as new.

Where is the controller for the seats in my 300SD? What would keep the
memory seats from working other than different connectors/different
wiring?

Regarding memories, I only want good ones with this car.

I want to go there badly. I hope to, someday, go there to pick up a car. I
certainly will visit there someday.
Maybe next year when my wife and daughter go to Austrailia I'll get to
Stuttgart.

Bob - we just got back (Sunday) from the last 50th Anniversary trip of
the

year to the M-B facilities in and around Stuttgart. One of the stops was
the Euro delivery center, where they, on that day, rolled out the 25th
million car! There must have been 30 cars in the main floor, all ready
to

go to buyers that morning.
We also went and visited the main Classic Center in Fellbach, where they
wouldn't give me the data for my car as I only had the VIN. I was
curious

to see if they had more info than what MBUSA sends out in this country.

Werner mentioned:

Bob - you can contact the MBUSA Classic Center, where they can access
all
the info for your car.

I sent off and they emailed me that info...that's where I saw the 820
tourist delivery code.
Good information.

It's like your '83 300SD with switches in the door panel. I was just
contemplating the possibility of replacing the seats with those from a
gasser if I could find some in the correct color.

Pulled the pan and changed the fluid/filter on the trans today to try
and get rid of the last bit of water on there. Also upgraded the k1
spring while in there. Boy did that make a difference. Was flairing
between 2-3, now its perfect.
