[MBZ] W126 seat interchangeability?
As many of you know, I've been looking for some better seats for my 300SD. I came across several seats out of similar gasser models (420SEL, 500SEL and 560SEL). Will these fit into my 300SD? I figure it may be worth a try since there aren't as many high mileage gassers out there. Gasser S class seats are more prevalent. Kevin in Hillsboro Oregon 1983 300SD 284k miles, Ursula

Are these done much like the W123 seats by sliding the seat forward or backward to get to the bolts? If so, this is going to make it very tough since the power mechanism doesn't work. Is there a way to work it by hand while the seat is still in the car? Spraying contact cleaner into the switch while operating it USUALLY will result in the corroded switch starting to operate. You may have to toggle the switch 50-75 times before you get the first signs of life but keep squirting and toggling and function is often restored. You may have to repeat this in a week or so if function becomes erratic, but after two or three treatments, reliable and prolonged function will usually be restored. The fact that you got one to work once is a GOOD sign that restoration is probable. I routinely use Caif D-5 contact cleaner. Marshall -- Marshall Booth Ph.D. Ass't Prof. (ret.) Not quite as fast or as easy as the installed version and there are no prices listed, but all models are there, you can access it from any computer, and you're spared the installation headaches with the regular version (which I haven't had working since 2003). Some of the older models are available only in German, which is a bit of a problem as the main reason I signed was for the W188 and W198 information. I give it two thumbs up overall. Tom

You might want to remove the old gasket and see how many you need/broke before going. I am talking 116 but guess that your 123 will be similar. I do like stp Sun of a Gun for lubing the gasket before installing but don't get any on the corner where the adhesive will go. The gasket will push in dry but why not give it a little preservation help on the dark sides. I just did the back doors on my 116 chassis. The only place you need adhesive is at the lower front corner of each door. 3M weatherstrip adhesive works fine if applied to both surfaces and allowed to cure before contact. A piece of duct tape across each corner will insure it won't move. Good luck, Jim Friesen Phoenix AZ 79 300SD, 264 K miles 98 ML 320, 146 K miles

No adhesive required, it should just fit into a square slot all the way round, except for maybe a flange on the front edge, depending on car. Peter

If that's the case then you must have some propane injection or other such option to boost your 83 300td to double it's horsepower... I figure my 83 300D has the same power and less weight than your td and I think it goes about as fast as it looks. If anything, mine perhaps sounds faster than it is. With the exhaust disconnected at the downtube, it tends to make people look when I'm flooring it to get out in the street and simply do 20mph and it sounds somewhere between a tank and a Mack truck at full throttle... That's a negatory - the 300TD is no Q-ship. It doesn't look fast and (most importantly) ISN'T fast. The 3.5 -might- be a Q ship, but the coupe design probably makes it look fast. True MB Q-ships are cars like the 6.3, 6.9, and 500E - sedate-looking sedans that have jaw-dropping performance. On 11/22/06, andrew strasfogel [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Very cool. [MBZ] Door Seal Replacement

Re: [MBZ] Door Straps
Bob - door checks, when not lubricated once in a while, tend to rust and then break. The check function is made by a vertical tube on the inside door part of the strap, that has a large steel ball bearing top and bottom, loaded with a tough spring. The balls ride in a channel of the door strap housing. Yes, the door panel has to come off, and then you can get to the 3 small cap screws that hold the assembly inside of the door frame. Rusty has them, and they are not expensive.
