On my W124 I also use a Topsider - using one of the pieces of tubing
that came with the Topsider (I believe) I push it into the dipstick tube
opening firmly. It seals well enough to make it possibe for the topsider to
suck all the oil out.
For my W123 I use a long piece of tubi

for the W124) in 1993.
There's been a big debate on the evaporator, with some claiming all
W124s are prone. My own opinion is this came in somewhere in the very

biodegradeable wiring. Most of the engine wiring harnesses have
probably been replaced by the 10 year/100Kmiles point, but check to

daughter's is the lowest end. The lower HP 1.6L engine combined with
the automatic transmission makes it a bit of a pig. Course it's all

The evaporator design on the W124 is bad, it suffers from stress cracks
where the copper tubes are pressed into the aluminum core. The good
replacement has all aluminum construction and does not appear to fail.
The copper/aluminum ones are sometimes bad out of the box.
