and how it is routed?

Thanks-Robert

No, but I've taken one apart before. It's a hard-shell molded
duct that runs through the console to the HVAC plenum under the
dash. The flap valve is in the plenum and driven by a cable.
The duct has a bunch of snap fingers that hold it in place.
They're easily broken.

Re: [MBZ] How to remove diesel oil from concrete?

2007-07-29 Thread slozukimc
Don't know if anyone has mentioned it yet

Take a smal pile of speedy dry and a piece of 2x4 about 6 inches long or
so and use the wide flat side to grind the speedy dry into the stain like
you were rubbing out paint except alot harder, keep at it and it will
eventually all come out. You should end up with a very fine powder like
flour if you are doing it right.

Mike

I've heard that pouring regular fertilizer (y'know, the
bomb-making stuff) on it to sit will decompose the oil
and remove the stain. I haven't really tried it myself
 yet.

Re: [MBZ] How to remove diesel oil from concrete?

2007-07-29 Thread Tom Hargrave
Honestly, if your garage floor is coated then clean-up should not be a
problem. You can wipe up the oil then scrub the floor with any good
detergent.

The problem comes from when it's not, like my driveway. In this case, some
of the oil actually soaks into the concrete, carrying the black soot in with
it. I've tried everything from Cascade, Coca-Cola, Muriatic acid and a
pressure washer. Of all of these, the acid was the worse because the acid
actually etched away some of the driveway surface. And yes, there was still
a stain underneath.

So, I just watch the stains slowly fade over the years I ignore the
neighbors' complaints..

Parked my SDL in the garage for about a week while we went to
Jacksonville.
When I came back found a small puddle of oil about 4 X 6 under the front
left fender. (It's a leaking oil cooler hose which is getting fixed
tomorrow) Anyway, what's the best way to get rid of that big black oil
blotch left in the concrete in my garage?

No, Dan would not be happy anywhere in Florida.

Dan wants four distinct season, a little sprinkling of
snow in the winter (more if he chooses to drive a
short distance) minimal humidity, and elevations of at
least several thousand feet.

I'm not being critical, and I will say there are
definitely some advantages to the mild (near tropical)
climate here. However, I grew up in the Midwest and I
miss the change of seasons. If I can get that along
with mountains, I'll be as close to heaven as I can
get.

As a fellow Midwesterner warned me when I moved here,
it's like Groundhog Day. Every day is the same, and
little or nothing changes. You can't track time by
the seasons, because they don't exist. Add to that
the horrendous cost of living, which continues to get
worse every year. When we first moved here from
Wisconsin it was much the same, maybe a little bit
cheaper. Now it's ridiculous between taxes and
insurance.

I know the northern interior is more temperate, but
you still have the heat, bugs and humidity.

I have lived here for over 10 years, and as far as I'm
concerned, I've put my time in. Time to move on.

Rotary/distributor pumps are lubricated exclusively via the fuel flowing
through them, and thus are vulnerable to the vagaries of fuel quality
(lubricity) and volume fluctuations at high RPMs. In short, they are less
reliable than inline pumps which are lubricated by engine oil. Inline pumps
are robust and rarely fail on MBs or other applications.

Do you know what size plunger they use on the Bosch VE (distributor) pumps
found in some 4BTs?

Re: [MBZ] USA trip Parts fraud

2007-07-29 Thread LarryT
The Auto Parts Store should be able to provide a FedEx Tracking Number so
you can locate the shipment. Without that, it might mean it was never
shipped.

Did you try to call them - or were you using email? In times like this,
the phone is better than email.

You can also check with the Better Business Bureau. They will take a
complaint and investigate but they have no
policing authority. They only report problems not resolve them.

The BBB can also provide the companies background - which is helpful before
sending money.

By paying by check as opposed to using a credit card, you lost much of your
leverage. With a cc card, you can have the bank reverse the charge in a
situation like this.

Sorry this happened -

Using the internet Parts Locator' I was given a Colorado location

I send in my payment check . I was duly informed that the parts had been

Well over a week's period I inquired about the Fed Ex Tracking number

I've had pretty good luck with the Oil Dry type absorbent. It's the same
as kitty litter, but sold as a car part instead of a pet supply wiith smell
crystals. Like suggested for using kitty litter, it works better if you
kind of grind or rub it in and let it set for a few weeks. I suspect any
calcined mineral like diatomaceous earth (kitty litter), portland cemet,
kilned lime etc will probably suck oil out of concrete. YMMV.

I actually like your part of Florida better than Citrus County. When we
retired in '95 we would probably have settled somewhere between Jacksonville
and Flagler Beach had it not been for three grandchildren in Citrus County.
My wife had ten happy years babysitting them and going to their various

A friend had a house on the St.Johns years ago. It was on a fairly high
bluff above the river not far from route 13. IIRC it was not too far north
of the I-95 bridge. He moved to a beach house at Ponte Vedra and now

[MBZ] what wheels fit a W126

2007-07-29 Thread eric peterson
I bid my crunched 85 300CD farewell last night and I
have to say this is the only car I've ever really
hated to part with. It was also one of the best and
cheapest to operate. I drove it for almost 4 yrs and
64KM at a cost of about $2K.

Sadly I'm without a diesel for now.

So I'm sorting thru the 380SE and want to update the
bundt wheels to something a bit newer. I assume the
later yr W126 wheels will also fit, but beyond that,
wheels from what other models will fit??

If anyone has a set of 5 rims from a late 80s W126
that are in good shape they want to part with drop me
a message off-list.

Aside from changing all the fluids and filters are
there any other items that generally are a good idea
to get done on a new used car?? The car was pretty
much dealer maintained for all but the last 20KM and
was maintained after that by a mechanic so it doesn't
really need anything right now.

Thanks

[MBZ] snap on

2007-07-29 Thread Kaleb C. Striplin
I went to an auction today and among other things I won a nice big fancy
Snap on(off?) AC recycle/recovery machine. This will be great. Now I
dont have to vent the system everytime there is a problem. I love
auctions, I think Im going to start going more often. It was hotter
than hell though. Just imagine standing out in the middle of a pasture

Re: [MBZ] How to remove diesel oil from concrete?

2007-07-29 Thread slozukimc
Try the kitty litter and wood block trickIt works. One of my friends
father was very anal about the floor in his shop but refused to have it
painted(slippery with oil on it painted) so he used to make AJ grind the
spots out of the floor each evening.

Mike

Honestly, if your garage floor is coated then clean-up should not be a
problem. You can wipe up the oil then scrub the floor with any good
 detergent.

The problem comes from when it's not, like my driveway. In this case,
 some
of the oil actually soaks into the concrete, carrying the black soot in
 with
it. I've tried everything from Cascade, Coca-Cola, Muriatic acid and a
pressure washer. Of all of these, the acid was the worse because the acid
actually etched away some of the driveway surface. And yes, there was
 still
 a stain underneath.

So, I just watch the stains slowly fade over the years I ignore the
 neighbors' complaints..

Parked my SDL in the garage for about a week while we went to

When I came back found a small puddle of oil about 4 X 6 under the front
left fender. (It's a leaking oil cooler hose which is getting fixed
tomorrow) Anyway, what's the best way to get rid of that big black oil
blotch left in the concrete in my garage?

I meant KM= 1000 miles.

Yes I was planning on doing the brake fluid, oil,
flush radiator, service transmission and differential
with new fluids. New air, oil, transmission, and fuel
filters. All belts and hoses are pretty new.

What's the best way to fix the loose Tex around the
seatbelt openings on the door posts? Its just
starting to come loose and I want to tighten it up
before I do a leatherique or lexol treatment on the
seats and door panels.

Yes I'm in diesel withdrawal (Its been over 10 yrs
since I've been without a diesel) but I'll be keeping
my eye open for a really nice low mileage well
maintained TD with a third seat. When I find one I'll
be back in the diesel fold.

Until then I'll enjoy the 380SE. It's sooo quiet.
But then again I miss the diesel KLATTA KLATTA.

Remove bottom plastic trim at base of pillar (two
phillips head screws.) Pry up the sill moldings on
both doors, as the trim has little tabs that go under
each of the sill moldings. It comes down and out
after the screws are removed.

The pillar cover comes off by pulling it down, as
there are hooks that keep it in place. You'll need to
unscrew the seat belt anchor bolt in the rocker panel
to remove the belt from the cover (through the hole.)

The cover has an MB-Tex covering that is glued in
place. When the tex shrinks from age, it delaminates
and comes off the metal cover.

Go to a good bodyshop supply place or a NAPA, and buy
a can of 3M Spray Trim Adhesive, #8074.

If the cover has just delaminated around the edges,
mask off the parts and spray both per the
instructions, let dry, then put them together. If a
lot of it has delaminated, try peeling it completely
off and regluing the whole thing.

Be sure to do this AWAY FROM THE CAR! The 3M adhesive
will attack paint.

pull out of the cars to a recycling company, don't worry about it.
If you're reusing the stuff yourself, you might want to look into
 that.

[MBZ] Rocker switch

2007-07-29 Thread wilton strickland
Anybody have a rocker switch available that I may use to control power to my
electric mobility scooter charger? Preferably one with small ON indicator
light like the air recirculation switch on center consol of my 87 300D. I'm
not physically able to scrounge at salvage yard like I used to do, or I'd
have already found one.

MBZ swtiches preferred, I assume?
I just buy 1/2 x 1/4 illuminated rocker switches for most stuff, but
I can see where factory style switches would be nice in a Benz.
Maybe I should part out my rusty old Saabs, the rockers are very similar,
but none are illuminated IIRC.

Two stroke oil burns with minimum residue (among other things). Regular

Re: [MBZ] USA trip Parts fraud

2007-07-29 Thread Affzaal.Khan
Larry Thank you for the input .

EAParts simply e- mailed me that we have shipped your order #. by
 Fed -Ex.
They did not provide a Tracker #.and I have repeatedly called them for it
after a week's wait.
Phone and mail. Simply No response. I would agree with you it was never
shipped .

I had sent the Payment by check(cashed) as I thought it was better when
dealing with a used parts autos . Normally I do use the CC for most
payments everywhere.

The BBB can also provide the companies background - which is helpful
 before
 sending money.

By paying by check as opposed to using a credit card, you lost much of
 your
leverage. With a cc card, you can have the bank reverse the charge in a
 situation like this.

 Sorry this happened -

Subject: [MBZ] USA trip Parts fraud

I had an excellent vacation trip to USA enjoyed the lovely weather up
north. I got all the new parts from Rusty with a prompt delivery.

For my 300SEL 3,5 I also required some used trim and other bits .
Using the internet Parts Locator' I was given a Colorado location
 carrying used for W109.

I contacted them with my list and got a prompt reply that two complete
 cars were available for parts.

I send in my payment check . I was duly informed that the parts had
 been
 send via Fed Ex.
Well over a week's period I inquired about the Fed Ex Tracking number
for shipment as the parts had not arrived . Days went by no response .
repeated contact with them no response, no parts! the $350 check has been
 cashed!

Then it was Time to pack up and go home . Very disappointing.

I will appreciate input to this matter.
 Thanks
