When I got my badge they also included a nice lapel pin of the MB star
with 25 KM under it - I hope they are still issuing the badges - for
such a small amount of effort and money on the part of MB, the good will of
getting something to celebrate driving our cars for long distances is well
rec'd IMHO.

I'm pretty sure MBOZ has stopped handing out badges but I can't be
bothered displaying that I drive an old car with lots of miles under the
wheels and the odo in my 123 has stopped working but I guess it is
closing in on 250K. Looking at buying a 300TE with 350K on the clock but
I rather have one with 150K.

As far as your other voting habits - we're in agreement. Speaking of

Thats only ~310,000 miles, my 190D should hit that within the next year or so.
I think its 287k right now. Lessee, 55 miles a day, 550 a week is about 26400 a
year just to commute to work...

Anybody says the 190Ds can't do high mileage hasn't driven one.

Of course its back in the shop next week, the rear end is still not quite
right. Indy says he thinks he knows what it needs...
I'm still pushing for subframe bushings but he says its probably not that. He's
going to do some heavy duty diagnosis before he throws parts at it.

Yes, but that's not what we like about them. I don't know, mine
just handles and drives very nicely. (I thought the 115/123 shared
the same suspension.) With the torquey little four-banger and a
stick shift they're very driveable. And the funky old-school
interior is something I enjoy. The 123 is more creature-comforty,
but that's not everything. The 115's manual steering is very
tight, I'd say there is zero play in the steering wheel which is
_not_ something that can be said of our 123. The basic simplicity
of the 115 is appealing, there's just not too much to go wrong.
(Except that blasted heater fan.) And I like wing windows.

For a long road trip I'd rather have the 123, but for commuting
to work I like the 115 just fine. At least until 107 season rolls
around again.

I think that the reason he does not get support is that he is not
appealing to the mainstream media, who like it or not pick the
candidates as much if not moreso than the voters do.

You have to play the media's game in campaigns -- Alan Keyes will not
do that. For example, he would not congratulate Barak Obama on his
victory in the race for the senate seat in Illinois because it would
be congratulations toward the triumph of that which I believe
ultimately stands for ... a culture evil enough to destroy the very
soul and heart of my country? I cannot do this. And I will not make a

Bob,

I like plain old clay based kitty litter. Grind it into the cement and it
will actually soak up the oil and then change the stain color to the kitty

The only drawback (not for the diesels, of course) is that very hard
cornering WILL unmount the outside front tire when you exceed the
side force limits on the rim/tire interface. This is, quite
obviously, NOT funny, as the car will shoot off the road in a direct
tangent to the point of failure.

The W123 has the rear swaybar reduced in size to introduce more roll
oversteer. This both alerts the driver (the back end starts around)
and reduces the loading on the outside front tire so it stays on the
rim.

That front sway bar on the W115 is HUGE, and does it's job quite well.

Yeah I was going to make the same comment -- I was initially thinking
it would be cool to outfit it as an RV, Westfalia style, until I saw
what the engine was. I think a lot of these mercedes trucks and vans
were really made for urban use and probably would be lucky to achieve
50MPH on the highway.

And what does it mean eligible for import ?? Would you not need to
federalize it? Or are trucks exempt? Or is it exempt due to age?

Also isn't there a fairly hefty duty on foreign trucks? Or is that
just for new vehicles?

Number 1 is how my Dad taught me acetylene welding - he bought home 20
or 30 pounds of various sizes and gauges of scrap iron, and told me to
weld them all together --

Number 2 might be the better approach though.

Having slept on it, I have two suggestions:

 1. Get the equipment and a book on welding and do what I did: Read
 the
book, get some scrap metal (old microwave ovens?), and have at it.
 The
main requirement for good welding is, as they say, time on the
 rod.
Since you're wanting to do automotive sheet metal, you'd probably
 do
best with a MIG.

 2. Go to a welding class at a nearby community college. There you
 will
learn proper technique and proper equipment. That knowledge will
 help
you select your own equipment and you will have a local expert to
 ask
questions.

Just how tall are you?? Must be a long reach to the pedals from the back
seat.

Ed
300E who has to pull the seat up a bit to reach the steering wheel, even
when I'm sitting in the front seat.

Sounds good to me. If I had a 617.951 (not the one in my car) or a
 603.961
along with a SEL with a blowed-up engine, it would be a possibility. I
would love the extra room in the back seat along with some headrests. I
 sat
back there in my 'SD for nearly 3 hours round trip today.

Ed most parts for 110 -111 are interchangeable and that includes the
engine/mechanical components too.
Only exceptions are the 111 coupes.

Is the W110 and W111 interchangeable as far as body parts are concerned?

I have a 1960 Mercedes fintail, 6 cyl. Engine runs, car needs body work
ect.. rocker on drivers side, drivers floorboard needs repaired. Car would
be good for parts or to restore.
