When I got my badge they also included a nice lapel pin of the MB star with 25 KM under it - I hope they are still issuing the badges - for such a small amount of effort and money on the part of MB, the good will of getting something to celebrate driving our cars for long distances is well rec'd IMHO. (I thought the 115/123 shared the same suspension.) With the torquey little four-banger and a stick shift they're very driveable. And the funky old-school interior is something I enjoy. The 123 is more creature-comforty, but that's not everything. The 115's manual steering is very tight, I'd say there is zero play in the steering wheel which is _not_ something that can be said of our 123. The basic simplicity of the 115 is appealing, there's just not too much to go wrong. (Except that blasted heater fan.) And I like wing windows. I've never ridden in a 200D, 220D or 240D W115, but I've ridden in 3 different W115 300D's. The road feel is so different than the W123. It's a slightly stiffer ride, but the tradeoffs are way less body roll and tighter and more responsive steering (this all from the passenger's seat, of course! :D). This is, quite obviously, NOT funny, as the car will shoot off the road in a direct tangent to the point of failure. The W123 has the rear swaybar reduced in size to introduce more roll oversteer. This both alerts the driver (the back end starts around) and reduces the loading on the outside front tire so it stays on the rim. That front sway bar on the W115 is HUGE, and does it's job quite well. I think a lot of these mercedes trucks and vans were really made for urban use and probably would be lucky to achieve 50MPH on the highway. And what does it mean eligible for import ?? Re: [MBZ] Otter/Beaver
Ah, well actually I live just 3 miles from Viking air here on Vancouver island who now own the rights to the original de Havilland designs. They have suggested they are looking into building new DHC-3 Otter and possibly the DHC-2 Beaver following strong market demand for both aircraft. From my dinning room we sometimes get 100 ft viewpoints of float plane (illegal flight paths) and you can certainly tell the turbo based ones from the original radial engines (did I mention they are loud?).
