Re: [MBZ] FW: The new Dodge Ram -- a game-changer
About 10 years ago Dodge had a prototype of the Contractor's grade pickup. This was a diesel/electric hybrid that used the electrical motor as a 15KW generator. Thus in a power outage you could run your house off the truck. This is what I am looking for in a truck, well that and 4 doors. As far as MPG goes my 560SEL that I drove today gets around 17MPG... At least that's what those who are supposed to know tell me. Bottom line, the building service industries need and will always need trucks and vans. Also, a Dodge truck with a crew cab is pretty economical at 17 MPG when you split the cost of the ride between 4 members of a work crew. Doesn't that work out to 68 MPG per passenger / mile? only other option is very high resistance wiring or the shaft bearings are so bad they have allowed the shaft to contact the pickup. The pickup is a coil hiding behind a thin aluminum wall at the rear of the shaft. If the shaft had chewed its way to the coil methinks it would no longer hold refrigerant. I think the problem is electrical. Either the coil is shorted internally, or something else along that line is wrong externally. A few shorted turns internal to the coil would still ohm out OK, but would short out any induced voltage. (An inductance tester would detect this, if you had one.) I believe the coil plug can be replaced, but I don't know if one can get them other than off some other compressor. You could measure the resistance between the Klima's tachometer pins. It should not be particularly low, certainly not low enough to short out all the signal. -- Jim ___ http://www.okiebenz.com For new parts see official list sponsor: http://www.buymbparts.com/ For used parts email [EMAIL PROTECTED] To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

The tongue tilts and the axle can be moved to multiple positions. It's light and tows easily. You can haul a vast amount of stuff in it--much more than a pickup, as it's lower and can be stacked higher, plus that 12+ long bed. Plus, it's much lower to the ground and easier to load, and more maneuverable--you can hand- maneuver it in all kinds of places, then either hand-push or hook-and- pull it out. Mine moves many, many tons of everything from used asphalt to fine furniture to machinery to brush to firewood per year, and costs me virtually nothing. It's been from Iowa to Maine 4 times. I pull it with either a turbodiesel vanagon westfalia (70 hp) or an 86 S-10 (92 hp). You don't need lots of power or a large, fuel- gulping vehicle to haul huge amounts of stuff--torque and gears do just fine. The trailer and vanagon have an unbelievably large capacity when used in tandem--easily 3 or 4 long-bed pickups worth, and still gets in the low twenties with both packed to capacity (and the vanagon is rated for a ton). When you're not using it, it costs nothing in fuel or insurance. And, you can leave it where it's needed to be loaded or unloaded, unhitch, and avoid carrying stuff around with you that you don't need to. Also, the memory of the 1993 floods here is still fresh, and people knew to take this seriously. The two situations are just not comparable, for many more than purely cultural differences. My parents live about an hour from New Orleans, and I was up in Iowa for a little bit during the flooding (left about two days before the Des Moines river crested). There are many orders of magnitude difference in the scale of the disaster between the two. You probably couldn't have gotten the wiring bracket off with the compressor in the car anyway, although I guess it's possible if you take off the PS pump. A bit hard to reach, three screws (two for the bracket and one for the clutch coil ground) and then the bracket comes off and you can unfold the pin holder and free the wires. BTDT, have one it bits in the garage waiting for new o-rings for the manifold so I can hopefully get AC in the 300D soon. peter -Original Message- From: Luther [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Jun 24, 2008 11:59 AM To: Mercedes Discussion List mercedes@okiebenz.com Subject: Re: [MBZ] '86 SDL Klima On the flip side of that, since the voltage is out of spec/low, either the sensor is bad OR the compressor is bad. But Culver and his predecessor would love to turn Iowa into that kind of socialist mecca that Naw'lans was before the hurricane. They wish they were Landrews and William Jeffersons in place of just smalltime crooks. I got off the Dubuque St exit in Iowa City last Friday. I didn't get far because all 4 lanes are still UNDERWATER! At least 4-5 feet still. The media circus has moved on now to the 'burbs of St Louis, but the flood is still in Iowa. Yes, water levels are down 5-6 feet, but the water levels are still way over flood stage. I had to turn around and get back on I-80 and go to Dodge St to get to Mercy Hospital downtown in Iowa City. Dubuque St. is the major downtown exit, and the exit for most of the U of I except for sports. [MBZ] Strange Radio Connections
Hello - The Blaupunkt I have installed was wired really strangely. The 2 hot leads (1 to ign and 1 to batt) go to the same wire - the ign wire. Then, the ground wire is hot! I went to attach it to the frame and saw a small spark. Whoa -- that's not right. Looked at the diagram and yep, the wires are right - except the hot leads are supposed to be seperate - instead both go to a single lead that's hot when the ign is turn on. The strange thing is the radio will not work without the ground wire (which is hot) attached to ground! So, next step is to run new wires from + of battery to the yellow hot lead and then a new red wire from the ign to the red wire on the radio. Then the ground should actually be a ground and not hot! Re: [MBZ] Strange Radio Connections
I'd guess the radio is always on in a standby mode. When you touch the ground wire to a ground, you complete acircuit, and that creates a small spark. I know all the 1980+ beckers have a always on feature they will drain the battery over time. The anti-theft Beckers have to have power always on to maintain their brain Unhook the battery and your radio is scrambled and unusable. The ign wire is to provide power to some functions, and the + wire allows some functions when the ignition is off. MB radios of the past were wired to the hot (30) and you had to shut off the ign and shut off the radio separately. If you wire both to ign, the radio will only work when the ign is on and may loose its presets or some other storage feature. If you hook both wires to hot: everything will work, but you will need to shut off the radio separately from the ign. At 01:34 PM 6/24/2008, you wrote: Hello - The Blaupunkt I have installed was wired really strangely. The 2 hot leads (1 to ign and 1 to batt) go to the same wire - the ign wire. There is a little Isuzu diesel dually I want to purchase in New York State, about a 4 hour drive from Cleveland. It's from a private owner who can't provide a temp tag or plate. Normally, I'd pull a plate from a car just for the drive home - which in the past has worked even when I was pulled over once for a burned out headlight in Iowa (I did have it insured before I left), but I suspect it won't work to put a car plate on a 14,000lb truck. I don't dare drive it without a plate. The cops up here do not cut you any slack. In Ohio I can't get a temp tag for an out of state vehicle from the DMV, and I can't title the truck here until it has passed an Out of State Inspection where they compare the VIN on the current title to the tag in the windshield. In Ohio I can't get a temp tag for an out of state vehicle from the DMV, and I can't title the truck here until it has passed an Out of State Inspection where they compare the VIN on the current title to the tag in the windshield. Its a $1500 purchase, so it's not worth paying what it would take to have the truck moved.Any suggestions? Drive it without a plate? I drove the '92 2.5T from Ohio with no plate at all, and was even pulled over in MS for it. Since I bought the car 1 day before I was pulled over I was still within the legal time frame for licensing the vehicle. In MS its less than a week, but some states it is longer. This could very well be totally different for trucks. HTH!! Re: [MBZ] Buying and moving a truck. No Mercedes content, but it is a diesel.
I bought a pristine 1970 108 sedan in Virginia about 10 years ago. Flew in to the Norfolk airport and the estate attorney met me at the airport with the car. Had a bill of sale and Florida tags (registered to another car that I was going to transfer to the 108.) Drove cross-country to I-95 through a bunch of little cow towns. Wile driving through one of them, I got pulled over by the local gendarmes. They made me exit the car and put my hands on the roof while they searched the cabin and got my paperwork and license. I refused to let them search the trunk because I was pissed, despite it being empty (I had gone through it before departing to make sure there wasn't anything in it I didn't want...) They were less than nice and refused to respond to my questions about being stopped. I asked what probable cause they had and said that I wanted to call my attorney. That seemed to piss them off even more. After about 15 minutes of tension while they searched and called in my ID, they literally tossed my paperwork back in the car and told me I could go, without even a sorry or explanation of why they stopped me. They happened to pull me over in the Micky D's parking lot, so I locked the car and went in to get a cold beverage. Naturally, many of the eyes in the place were on me when I came in, since this all unfolded in front of the clientele. I asked the girl at the counter what was with the local cops, and she just chuckled and said, Look at your license plate. Yes? It's from Florida. So? This is a major corridor for drug traffic. The local cops get their jollies by stopping almost every car with a Florida plate to search it for drugs. sigh Needless to say, I doubt I'll travel in that part of VA again... You've never been to my small town! We have only a twice-a-week newspaper (with the Tuesday one being free and only a couple of pages for everything, including the want-ads and farm sale advertisements) but that has no impact on the reporting of the important local news events. It is very easy to keep up with all of the important stories and they are available for the cost of a cup of coffee at the Uptown Cafe restaurant or a haircut at the local barber shop. No guarantee of accuracy as few of those reporters don't check sources, but you will definitely know what is going on in the community! I went to attach it to the frame and saw a small spark. Whoa -- that's not right. Looked at the diagram and yep, the wires are right - except the hot leads are supposed to be seperate - instead both go to a single lead that's hot when the ign is turn on.The strange thing is the radio will not work without the ground wire (which is hot) attached to ground! So, next step is to run new wires from + of battery to the yellow hot lead and then a new red wire from the ign to the red wire on the radio. Then the ground should actually be a ground and not hot! Anyone ever see something like this?. The radio ground wire is not hot. It is electrically the same as the connected radio until it is grounded. Voltage flows through the radio components looking for ground and when the ground wire is connected, the electric/electronic components have 12V on one side and ground on the other and can function. The two 12V leads were wired together by a lazy installer. One lead shoud go to unswitched 12V to keep the radio memory alive and the other to the switched source to provide 12V to the radio. You didn't mention the 12V ouput to the antenna motor. RLE/electrical person ** Gas prices getting you down? Search AOL Autos for fuel-efficient used cars. Re: [MBZ] FW: The new Dodge Ram -- a game-changer
The system used by GM in the late 60s used leading links to eliminate torque wrap a transverse bar to limit side to side motion. Appears that you have never lived in Kalifornia. You got 10 days from the date on the bill of sale to register the car. Stiff penalties await you if you don't. [MBZ] does this Ford sound like its worth messing with
I have a 1987 Ford F-250 Diesel that has the bio set up already installed on it. it is a rough truck but did run about 4 months ago but now the batteries are dead and I dont have time to mess with it. I had a title for it but cant find it and it was in the previous owners name. So use it as a farm truck or go get a bonded title or whatever it is. will take anything interesting in trade for the FORD. Just let me know your offers and of course I will take cash offers too. UPDATE I WENT TO GET THE PICS YESTERDAY. I HOOKED UP A BIG ASS BOOSTER TO IT AND TURNED THE KEY AND NOTHING HAPPENED. THE DASH LIGHTS COME ON BUT IT WOULDNT TURN OVER SO I AM GUESSING IT NEEDS A NEW IGNITION SWITCH. I SPARKED FROM THE SOLENOID AND IT TURNED OVER FOR A MINUTE AND I SPRAYED A LITTLE CARB CLEANER IN IT AND IT BUSTED RIGHT OFF RAN ROUGH FOR ABOUT 30 SECONDS AND THEN PURRED LIKE A KITTEN. I DROVE IT AROUND THE PARKING LOT A COUPLE TIMES THEN PARKED IT BY THE DUMPSTER TO CLEAN OUT THE BED AND IT DIED WHILE IDLING I DONT KNOW IF IT IS OUT OF GAS OR WHAT IS WRONG.. Slap a little Vehicle In Transit sign in the back window (or in your case, maybe the front window), have the signed-over-to-you title with you, and drive it home. I sold a Corvette on eBay for my brother-in-law's friend in Des Moines. He did that and made it fine back to Alabama. As long as you can prove insurance you should be fine. Think of it this way -- if you buy a new car and are waiting for plates, in many states I've lived in you run around with the dealer's piece of cardboard where the license would be as you wait for your plates to arrive. Re: [MBZ] Something about light bulbs - NO MB
You know that this is true! We all want to be more friendly to our mother earth, though there must be a better way to determine this. Such as with these CFL's what is the environmental impact of the disposal, since we all know we are just going to toss them in the trash. Its also been on my mind with these hybrid cars what is the total impact on the environment with the manufacturing and finally the disposal of the batteries involved. I wish someone would come up with a standard say a number system 1 through 100 with a items total impact on the enviroment. Which includes the whole life of the item. Then we can all make better choices. just my 2cents Douglas - Original Message - From: Chuck Landenberger [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Mercedes Discussion List mercedes@okiebenz.com Sent: Monday, June 23, 2008 1:04 PM Subject: [MBZ] Something about light bulbs - NO MB And something's is wrong! [MBZ] OT - June 6, 1944
Another tidbit about Omaha Beach: My brother's command post (Beach Master, controlling traffic to, from, on the beach, etc.) was hit by a German 88 mm shell. One of his radiomen, John Gallagher, was seriously wounded - shrapnel in the head, temp. blindness, etc. A Life Magazine photographer took a photo of him sitting with several other wounded awaiting evac. In the photo, his face and head are COMPLETELY covered except a very small tuft of hair sticking out the very top of the bandage. His mother, family etc., were notified that he had been killed. His mother refused to believe it, though. Some time later - several weeks or coupla months, his mother saw the photo in Life Magazine and recognized him by his posture and the small tuft of hair. She tried to tell others in the family that the photo was John; nobody would believe her, but, indeed, it WAS John. He spent many months in hospital; recovered his sight. He worked as an electronics engineer for IBM for about 35 years in NY and at RTP, Raleigh,. NC. He told me in Sep '01 that in about 1995, he was in a restaurant in Raleigh one day, and suddenly he started bleeding from his mouth; 'felt something sharp in the roof of his mouth. Another piece of the shrapnel had finally come out of his head, as had happened several times since June of '44. John died coupla years ago. On the one hand, you can download a lot of training manuals on the 'net.
