That was the Chicken Wagon, as it happens. (But probably
only because the SDL was out of action then. Still is.)

But anyway. I went and fixed the reserve light on my 300D yesterday.
Always wondered why it didn't come on no matter how long I waited to
fill the tank. I figure I must have been running on fumes more then
once. Finally decided to check it out and found
The tube was pretty easy to take apart. And I found that the problem
was a rather deep collection of black crud in the bottom of the tube
that covered the contacts and prevented the float making contact.
That crud is algae residue. Your tank probably has similar crud
in the bottom of it.

I started removing the Chicken Wagon's steering box. I cracked loose
every bolt before beginning to remove everything. It was all pretty
uneventful, practicing yesterday certainly helped. (The puller I'd
made for these joints works excellently. Some pressure and a few
hammer taps and POP!

Yeah. That was what I thought when I saw it but I had that problem many
years ago on the Chevy and when I took the tank out it was slimy though
pretty easy to get out. This stuff is not gummy or slimy. It was more
like crumbly rubber particles. My thought is that it may be the remnants

Well today I messed with the maytag a little bit. Pulling off the top
part (guess the lint filter or something) revealed a massing amount of
sludge like stuff down in the center of the agitator. I removed the set
screw, pulled the whole thing out, cleaned it out, put it back in. The

in one direction freely, it gets hung up at a certain point which is why
its not working. Need to buy a new one. Guess I could spend $60 on
that, or $1600 or more for a new front loader washer/drier pair. Wonder

or tensioner have been changed, so I'm assuming that's practically an

Check the stretch. The 4.5L goes a long, long time between chains,
117k miles is no surprise.
It will get marginally better milage with the valve timing correct,
though. 14.2 rather than 14.0, maybe.

The V8 with the chain issues is the 380, not the 450. The early 380's had
single roller timing chains and the chain was not up to task. All so the
450s have double roller timing chains - you just check for stretch and
replace if necessary.

Tell them you want the On Premises Laundry (OPL) model, it's about $100 cheaper
without the coin box IIRC.
We probably got 8-10 in Ames, but it was melting all day so the max

My Whirlpool Duet does have this feature, but it also has an unlock button
that you can use if it is not far enough into the cycle. In my experience
this works fine, as it is always just after you push the start button that
you realize you have forgotten something!
