Must be a difference in stores. Last several times I took crapsman
tools into a snears store, the clerks looked at me like a was an

I suspect either drive shaft issue (u-joint or carrier bearing).
If it is a half-shaft, it will change as you weave back and forth at
highway speed. Louder when loaded = bad side. Torn/ripped /cracked and
leaking rubber boots are almost always required for the joints to go
bad.
