So you grew up across from Pleasant Home? That's a very pretty mansion. The West Cook Y is on the NW corner of Marion/Randolph and there is a parking lot north of it. That might be what you see on Google. The building is old and still has the residential parts. Yes the reason they try to push the pods are you don't have to liscense them, where as the trailer has to be liscensed and all the BS that comes with the DOT - so if you just have one trailer or truck for every 10 or 20 pods the cost savings should ad up pretty quick. [MBZ] Ether, WAS: 300td injector rebuild
The 60s vintage AC 6 cyl engines had a heater in the intake. the 60s and 70s John Deere 3 and 4 cyl tractors (Dubuque and Mannheim tractors as opposed to Waterloo tractors) had the ether can mount under the steering wheel. But they generally started down to 0-10 without ether. Ether is not good for prechamber engines, and MB in particular, but it can help in a pinch with an engine you don't really care much about. I did ether the 400k 190Dc I used as a frankenheap years ago. But it was a heap that arrived with the bumper in the trunk. A buddy of mine has a AC diesel tractor (big siz cylinder) with DI. It has an intake pre-heater he refuses to use (he also didn't have all four batteries hooked up last time I saw it) and complains about how hard it is to start. Uses ether, and it's useless in the winter. Hot air in the intake works better than ether -- ether will pre-ignite in a high compression engine and slow it way down driving the starter motor backwards. Only good for low compression (16:1) DI engines. Jaime wrote: "Where are you located? I have a friend interested in such a car. Wiring harness and AC ok?" I'm in Wichita, KS. America's heartland. The a/c works great as does the heat. I don't know if the harness has been changed. BUT, I talked to the Service manager at the dealership where this car was serviced. The headgasket was replaced twice. The last time was in January of 2010 (I bought the car is February of 2010). This was the second headgasket because the dealership had to redo it because it was leaking externally. The reason I mention that is that he said on these cars, the techs are trained to inspect the wiring harness when they do the headgasket. I guess you have to sort of bend the harness out of the way. He said he did not know if the harness was replaced at either time, but if it showed any degradation or wear, it would have been done. I would not want to affirmatively represent that the harness has been done because I don't know. I am going to try to confirm it today. The only thing wrong occurred this morning. The high mounted (third) brake light bulb went out. I tried to get the cover off and can't. Im sure I can do it, just didn't have time this morning. Donald H. I'm pretty sure my Dad's Allis-Chalmers 200 had that. He replaced it with a Belarus that had a kerosene fueled flamethrower in the intake manifold. That was where I got the idea to put a heat gun in the intake snorkel.
