So you grew up across from Pleasant Home?  That's a very pretty mansion.

The West Cook Y is on the NW corner of Marion/Randolph and there is a parking
lot north of it.  That might be what you see on Google.  The building
is old and still has the residential parts.

I think all my cars have quite a lot of oil lining the intake
tract. Maybe just light that!

Let it burn for just a bit and crank.

Side effect would be a clean intake! :)

Or a lump of slag instead of a car. :(

Here in the States it is called a VMI report but will only provide

If like here, just go to the dealer where it was serviced, and ask for a
complete printout of the service history. They'll ask to see the
registration probably to prove you own it. Then, you can look over
everything over the years, and know what was done or not, and how much life
is left in some components before they'll need attention or replacing. It's
a good piece of documentation to have with the car.

I would guess the issue with a container is needing to get a
mobile gantry crane out to lift the container onto the trailer.
With a trailer, just send out a tractor and hook it up when it's
ready to go.

Yes the reason they try to push the pods are you don't have to liscense
them, where as the trailer has to be liscensed and all the BS that comes
with the DOT - so if you just have one trailer or truck for every 10 or 20
pods the cost savings should ad up pretty quick.

If it's like earlier 124 sedans, you have to squeeze VERY hard to get
the mounting tabs loose, which usually means breaking at least one,
since the plastic has been exposed to direct sunlight for umpteen
years getting dry and brittle.

[MBZ] Ether, WAS: 300td injector rebuild

2011-02-01 Thread Dieselhead
The 60s vintage AC 6 cyl engines had a heater in the intake. the 60s
and 70s John Deere 3 and 4 cyl tractors (Dubuque and Mannheim
tractors as opposed to Waterloo tractors) had the ether can mount
under the steering wheel. But they generally started down to 0-10
without ether.

Ether is not good for prechamber engines, and MB in particular, but
it can help in a pinch with an engine you don't really care much
about. I did ether the 400k 190Dc I used as a frankenheap years ago.
But it was a heap that arrived with the bumper in the trunk.

A buddy of mine has a AC diesel tractor (big siz cylinder) with DI.
It has an intake pre-heater he refuses to use (he also didn't have
all four batteries hooked up last time I saw it) and complains about
how hard it is to start. Uses ether, and it's useless in the winter.

Hot air in the intake works better than ether -- ether will
pre-ignite in a high compression engine and slow it way down driving
the starter motor backwards. Only good for low compression (16:1)
DI engines.

I don't carry Monarch, none of the major wholesale warehouse do either. When
we sold them we had a better than 50% return rate. Our Bosch tips are
$27.00. I was just curious who would still handle them.

Folks

someone asked what i'd charge to rebuild injectors

i guess for listmembers, $20 each plus parts and return shipping

i'd love to do some more

new nozzles cost about $20 and shims cost about $1

this would be ultrasonic cleaning, assembling and adjusting pressures
within 50 lbs and spray testing

i can also build some out of your supplies used parts if you have a couple
of sets of old ones

You may be right. I will definitely KEEP the E320 if I could only get $3,000.
That is well below what I think I would sell it for.

2011-02-01 Thread Donald Snook
Jaime wrote: "Where are you located? I have a friend interested in such a car.
Wiring harness and AC ok?"

I'm in Wichita, KS. America's heartland. The a/c works great as does the heat.
I don't know if the harness has been changed. BUT, I talked to the Service
manager at the dealership where this car was serviced. The headgasket was
replaced twice. The last time was in January of 2010 (I bought the car is
February of 2010). This was the second headgasket because the dealership had
to redo it because it was leaking externally. The reason I mention that is
that he said on these cars, the techs are trained to inspect the wiring harness
when they do the headgasket. I guess you have to sort of bend the harness out
of the way. He said he did not know if the harness was replaced at either
time, but if it showed any degradation or wear, it would have been done. I
would not want to affirmatively represent that the harness has been done
because I don't know. I am going to try to confirm it today.

The only thing wrong occurred this morning. The high mounted (third) brake
light bulb went out. I tried to get the cover off and can't. Im sure I can do
it, just didn't have time this morning.

Not true.

Ether is a really bad idea for any indirect injection engine.
But for a direct injection it is not only okay, but on some
engines there is a built-in ether delivery system.
