Re: [MBZ] '87 300D low speed acceleration rattle
rattle or sharp repeated "thunk thunk thunk" noise, only when accelerating between about 10 and 20 MPG. It sounds like something's banging on the underside of the car circa the rear passenger footwells, and if I put my hand back on the driveshaft tunnel when it's happening I can feel the vibration. Under heavy acceleration, but not light? Sounds like the center driveshaft bearing support to me. -- Jim ___ http://www.okiebenz.com For new and used parts go to www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

[MBZ] '87 300D low speed acceleration rattle
Must be the day for 124s to make bad noises, although I don't think my problem is as bad as Max's. All of a sudden my 300D is making a rattle or sharp repeated "thunk thunk thunk" noise, only when accelerating between about 10 and 20 MPG. It sounds like something's banging on the underside of the car circa the rear passenger footwells, and if I put my hand back on the driveshaft tunnel when it's happening I can feel the vibration. I don't think it's likely to be exhaust-related although I could be wrong--I replaced all of the mounts last year when I dumped the cat so the whole exhaust system from front to back is pretty tight. Agreed. It is not uncommon at all to buy diesel in the morning and come back later in the day to find the price 20 cents higher, or even lower sometimes. $.05 we don't even notice anymore. Google is your friend. $20 for a working name-brand scope (no matter how lowly a model) sounds good to me. http://www.antiqueradios.com/forums/viewtopic.php/t=3839 IIRC, a T922 is near the bottom of the barrel so far as Tek choices go, but nothing really wrong with it either. The trick to not suck with your lungs, but with your tongue. Like pipe smoking, I'm told. Take a deep breath, hold it, and use only your tongue to generate the vacuum. It might take a few mouth-fulls, but neither the liquid nor the vapor should ever be able to get past your mouth. Should bad things happen and too much gets in your mouth and you cough, you won't have to pull air (and vapor and liquid) in before a violent exhale. Still it's not a terribly safe thing to do - but neither is driving. Or living. -- Philip ___ http://www.okiebenz.com For new and used parts go to www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com
