Honestly the DIY route is probably better because you are wanting RAID5 and at least four drives. Once you are at that level you are getting into enterprise, so you are either getting an AIO appliance that can't meet its ratings or is crazy expensive. Also, you are coming into it with enough sysa

I looked at a Thecus box (N4800?) but was a bit concerned about the software and the price. It seemed very "feature rich" compared to other NAS appliances that were more expensive. Made me wonder where they were cutting back to be at the price point they are at. I really like the Synology stuff
