All the 220Sb/230S interior parts can be swapped in, if you want the wood.

I use both Iron and Comodo - both built on the open source code from Chrome
with the phone-home code stripped out. Iron is nice, but doesn't auto-check
for updates, you have to do that yourself. Comodo does auto-check for
updates, but is SO "private" that it won't remember passwords - so I have
to log in every time to read this list - life can be so hard some times :-)
No, I won't use Chrome at all.

We were having this conversation at a neighborhood party the other night

Parts of Florida, yes. However, as close as we are to the Gulf, despite the
temperature and humidity there is always a breeze, which makes it a lot more
bearable than the oppressive humidity and heat that one experiences in places
like the Midwest, for example.

I can say without question that Indiana and Wisconsin in the summer are a lot
worse than Florida. The humidity is really oppressive. It's that way in the
interior of Florida, but not close to the coasts.

Sorry for the dilatory response.

Happy New Year to all!

I went back to the doctor in Albuquerque regarding my lower back on
02 December after two months of physical therapy. I have improved enough
so that I am not having the leg symptoms, but I do still have periodic
lower back pain. He prescribed eight more physical therapy visits, but
Blue Cross approved two to finish out last year. I went to the second of
the two on 26 December and was given more exercises. It's just slow
building back up after being so sedentary for so long. Sitting at the
computer as much as I do to do job searching doesn't help any either,
I'm sure.

My neck and shoulders are still hurting, though only at a low level. The
physical therapist isn't sure what that's due to, but did some vertebra
mobilization exercises last Thursday. At the one-year point, I'll get
another set of X-Rays and send the image CD off to Dr. Chang in Arizona.

On the job search front, I am now up to 166 job contacts/applications.
Since the last update, at the end of September, I have applied to:

Since I had applied to John Brown University (for an engineering opening)
in late 2011 and had an on-campus interview there in January, 2012, I
only needed to tell them of my interest in their physics position; they
will use all my application materials from then.

The position with Berry College is curious. I applied to a tenure-track
faculty position in the physics department in October. When I was looking
on the American Physical Society careers web page recently, I saw they had
an ad for a 3 year visiting faculty position. I had saved the URL of the
listing for the tenure-track position on the college's website, so I went
there with my web browser and found that it now was for a 3 year visiting
faculty position. I sent an email to the head of the department (who was
a graduate student with me at UT Austin) and got a response on Monday. He
said the three-year position is in addition to the tenure track position
and asked if I wanted to be considered for that, too. I haven't sent him
a reply yet. He did say, "The tenure track search is still ongoing
although we have made an offer and are awaiting a response."

I have run across a position with HCJB Global, an organization that has
broadcast the Christian Gospel around the world since Christmas Day,
1931. The position involves a lot of engineering work that I find very
interesting. It's at
http://www.hcjb.org/serve/technology-center/engineering/electrical-design-engineer.html
in case you are interested in looking at it. The sticking point is, "The
successful applicant is required to raise their own support or have the
capacity to be self-funded ..." If that's what the Lord wants, He will
have to make it plain.

I'm still not sure what the Lord has in mind, but I keep praying and
plugging away.

I use No-Script with both SeaMonkey (my primary browser) and Firefox. It
allows blocking or permitting of scripts on each website visited on a
script-serving site-by-site basis. One can block all scripts called by a
certain website (the default) or allow them on a temporary or permanent
basis for the scripts that website serves itself and each of the sites
that serve scripts for that website.

For example, when I go to
http://www.askthebuilder.com/restoring-a-weathered-teak-table/?awt_l=BqPkw&awt_m=J6sS1UDrJrNiL5
 ,
I see the following sources for scripts:

- askthebuilder.com
- aweber.com
- media.net
- googlesyndication.com
- 5min.com
- addthis.com
- google.com
- googletagservices.com
- doubleclick.net
- googleusercontent.com
- ytimg.com
- gstatic.com
- youtube.com
- facebook.net
- twitter.com

I have allowed askthebuilder.com, googlesynication.com, google.com,
googleusercontent.com, ytimg.com, gstatic.com, youtube.com. I have marked
twitter.com and facebook.net as untrusted.

I keep away from doubleclick.net and googleanalytics.com as tracking
websites.

In SeaMonkey, I additionally have unchecked Preferences -> Advanced ->
Scripts & Plugins -> "When a page requires plugins Activate all plugins
by default" so I don't get flash and other presentations when I don't
want them (it decreases the processor load for tasteofhome.com, a website
Shirley frequents). I think there is an equivalent in Firefox, but I am
more familiar with SeaMonkey. There are also some websites that don't
work in SeaMonkey and I have to use Firefox.

If I have temporarily allowed (one-by-one) scripts on a website to see
the content, I then can "Revoke Temporary Permissions" to reset
everything. Sometimes I have found that allowing scripts from one of a
website's suppliers then brings up more script suppliers. It's really
annoying. Sometimes, they have been four or five deep.

In many cases, I have found that not allowing all the scripts keeps
advertisements and other such junk from loading; that's quite a benefit
on some websites.

I haven't tried AdBlock.

Yeah, I could probably do that, I suspect. I just wonder how tough it would be
to get that chrome plating off? Whoever did it did a good job. It's not
flaking or peeling on the edges or around the bead, where the plating usually
fails if it's an aftermarket job.

I suspect it was done after the fact, as the full size spare has the original
silver finish wheel.

This style 12 hole wheel was only used for a couple of years, or so it appears.
Offset is ET34, it's an 8.5 x 16 wheel. Lots of people go aftermarket with
these and move up to 18s, which fit well. Not sure how the handling is with
them. Moving from 16 to 18 is very popular with the W140 crowd, but that's a
much larger car which benefits from the larger footprint.

Is it pressurized like Bilstein shocks for W123s?

What is the #1 browser?

[MBZ] Disassembling Front Suspension

2014-01-01 Thread Dan Penoff
I need to replace the stop buffers on the front struts. I'm wondering how I can
remove the strut mounts and replace the buffer - should I have the suspension
loaded or unloaded? Or does it matter?

I would need to remove the top strut nut on the piston rod, then take the top
strut mount off so I can install the buffer.

I'm assuming that since the strut is only damping the spring, it's not going to
want to pop out when I take the strut mount off, correct??

With 16" wheels stock, I'm just not quite sure those would fit properly...
call it a hunch.

[MBZ] Seating Beads on New Tires

2014-01-01 Thread Scott and Gwen Ritchey
I'm going nuts trying to seat the beads on a new set of tires on my lawn
tractor. The wheel rim is 7-8 inches wide but the beads on the new tires
sit about 4 inches apart when relaxed. I can easily pull the beads apart to
fit the wheel but I can't get them to stay that way while I add air. I
tried a cargo strap around the tread but that doesn't even get it close.

Any thoughts? Thanks.
